❤ WEEKLY SKETCHDUMP ❤// so...i tried painting and... (Patreon)

How was your weekend? I actually went on a small trip over the weekend, hence the sketchdump not going up on Monday, and I had a lovely time seeing my partner's friends and family. ^^ 

As mentioned in last week's sketchdump, I decided to give acrylic paints a try! Above: Here are my first few attempts at painting traditional landscapes. I feel like a total beginner, but I'm okay with that! The most challenging part so far is mixing colors. It's so tricky getting to the color I want, something I rarely encounter when working traditionally. On the other hand I love the texture that the paints and brushes create interacting with the paper. It feels so immediate and alive.

I've really been loving working with traditional tools lately, especially ballpoint pen and color pencils. The way I approach these tools versus digital art feels much more straightforward and easy to get into. I think the limited options help cut down on a lot of decision-making that usually comes with digital art (plethora of colors, brushes, paths to choose from) that I don't really face with traditional art. I feel like I'm in a stage where digital art feels overly complicated for what I'm trying to practice.

I looooove drawing people playing instruments, I think the resulting pose always looks so cool. Referenced my partner's friend while he was playing the guitar, always a treat when I get to draw a live model! 

Charas from Ni No Kuni 2! The designs in this game are absolutely adorable, plus I love how bright and colorful everything is~
