Digging the tracks @ yung chomsky & John Vanderslice* preemptively posted before finishing the ep. regardless 👌👌👌

Rene Saller

I think Brace said that John Vanderslice did the interstitial music for this episode. I agree that Yung Chomsky is great, though. I thought the style sounded slightly different this time, and then when Brace mentioned that John Vanderslice did the music for this episode it made sense to me.

Eric Brower

“Italian malé gazé” so good

Baron

Hahaha fuck, I just remembered Gladwell’s podcast has been doing ads for AT&Ts 5G since like day 2 👁

Woah, there was news about Mr Bean literally on the radio this morning - Rowan Atkinson is retiring the character. How did Brace know that news would come out back in October? 👁

Patrick ODonnell

The opening bit reminded me...when are we going to get a Stephen Paddock ep?

2nd ave is not the arts district, it's just a bunch of shitty bars for tourists. Arts district is like 5th ave.

How do you go to Syria and not know what paprika is? It’s one of the most common spices in the region and a staple.

@cheep_hardware I’m sorry that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the meaning of the words “common” and “staple.”

When the judge is so gullible as to believe J Epstien killed himself it makes me wonder how out of touch she is.

Never thought Townes would make his way in there, haha. My parents were his friends since before I was born and he was like an uncle to me...One story, somewhat pertinent to this episode: my mom was in some little folk / country band and she had a gig in a place called Windows on the Cumberland right near where the bomb went off. This was about 30 years ago and I presume it's long gone, and 2nd Avenue had yet to become the NASCAR shirt / bachelorette party drunk Southern WASP shitshow it is today....Anyway, my stepfather, Townes and I went to see mom in that little band. I was about 20 then and Townes for some reason singled me out to gamble with him. It was some stupid game of 50/50 chance. No skill whatsoever. The only bet Townes made for real was that he had more money in his pocket than I did, and he won that bet, taking all $12 or so of my dollars. "Let that be a lesson to you, Nova," he said, cackling. He spent much of the rest of the evening begging my stepfather to take us all to the notorious Gold Rush bar. "I just want *one* brandy Alexander," he kept saying. "Just one, man...Come on!" Chip, my stepfather, kept putting him off, and I sidled over to him and said something like "He just wants one, Chip. Is that so wrong?" (I was 20 and didn't understand alcoholism. Or how not-fun drinking with Townes was, at least for me. Over the later years I'd find out: he tried to make me as miserable as possible I guess so I wouldn't end up like him, which I kind of have, anyway.) Back to the story: Chip told me it was in fact a very bad thing that Townes wanted a brandy Alexander and he wasn't going to be party to it, and the night kind of fizzled after that. As did Chip's marriage to my mom; she was having an affair with Jimbo, the ne'er-do-well guitar player in that band. Townes would be dead in seven years and she in eight. And while I have come to suffer from addictions of my own, gambling has not been one of them.

john n lomax

Oh and I never *consciously* thought of Townes's music as a tool of seduction, but damn if I didn't subject most of the women in my life to selections from Live at the Old Quarter by no later than the second date. Perhaps I was caught up in the MK Ultra scheme unwittingly; I was told not long ago by a friend of my mom's that I was literally born on LSD.

Demetri B.

what episode did liz refer to in this?

john n lomax

Glad you liked it....It's weird and gratifying to me how Townes has finally arrived on a level I never could have imagined possible when I was a kid. I guess I can finally take the chip off my shoulder I've carried for so long. Back when he was slogging around in obscurity, I was so angry that so many lesser talents were all over the radio and charts....Which brings up another story, haha. My dad threw a party in about 1995 and Townes was there with his guitar, picking on dad's patio. This very annoying rando woman was there and had no clue who he was. Townes was taking requests...and here imagine, if you dare, the absolute worst song somebody could ask Townes Van Zandt to play. Got it? Okay, it's worse than that. This idiot asked Townes fucking Van Zandt to play "Horse with no Name." He stared daggers at her and launched into....something that was not fucking Horse with no Name. At the time I dabbled on harmonica, and I sat in with him as he played "Fraulein," an old country song that was his dad's favorite. Amazingly, I did not disgrace myself, and with that as its high point, my musical career came to a close.

john n lomax

This story only touches on Townes here and there, but it's a partial picture of what it was like to grow up in that world. https://www.houstoniamag.com/news-and-city-life/2013/07/of-unknown-origin-july-2013

This dude knocked out telecommunications across several states for days. I think he was showing the right wing how to take down the Internet on January 6, just a theory.

Lots of LSD leftover from Bonnaroo makes its way into the Nashville area, a possible explanation for Tennessee's prevalence of anti-5G attacks?

Floyd Hill

Yuck.....trazodone is utter trash.....but likely I find it to be so because it was the first 2 meds given to me when starting college and getting that insomnia before exams that were too early for me (effin 8:20 AM exams)...it was mixed with Ritalin in the daytime... and I don't react well to methylphenidate at all either. It had to be Dexedrine and Clonazepam for me but I understand why you wont thread towards benzos at all Brace lol....if you want something non-addictive, Atarax/Vistaril is the best thing for sleep and it's not some 3rd rate antidepressant like trazodone.

Floyd Hill

I find it more insane that Assange, an Australian citizen, can be extradited to the US by a third party country, that's completely illegal, like, those prisoners in Guantanamo illegal.

Floyd Hill

Carbomb is a great band, in the vein of Converge and one of the only bands who play real metalcore (invention of Converge and Integrity pretty much)...sorry couldn't help myself but name drop em...they're broken up since along time, they aren't a seminal long-lasting band like Converge or Propagandhi.
