At the end of March, we at Animator Supporters hired a new animator under a full-time salary and began training them!
We’re currently producing an original anime short film, and through its creation and others like it, we aim to nurture new animators who will one day work as our animation leads.

The whole reason we’re doing this in the first place is because…

Animator Supporters has worked to raise the wages of Japanese animators for many years. The  anime industry faces an intense training and labor shortage due to the  number of animators leaving. Because of this, animation quality is  dropping, and show cancelations are becoming increasingly common. It’s fair to say that Japanese animation is in danger.
Animators’  low wages stem from multiple factors, but the most prominent issue is  structural, being production committees, which work to keep anime  production budgets low.
As  a realistic solution to this issue, we came up with this project which  aims to produce anime feasibly in a way that allows animators and other  anime creators to communicate directly with anime fans.
We  used this method to make ‘Back to You,’ our music video from last year,   while paying our animators four times more than the industry standard.
That’s to say that we already know that this production method works for short films.
We’re  working to promote direct communication between anime fans and creators  and establish an anime studio by 2025 that focuses on providing a great  working environment to animators.
As  a step toward that goal, we’ve hired and begun training a new animator  on a fixed salary this year. These videos are a documentary of their  training. We’ll record and release videos of our development workshops  and training sessions.
The  key animator we’re training this year was an honorable mention  recipient in the 11th New Animator Grand Prix in 2022. They’ve worked as  an animator for one year and began key animation training in March of  this year.
