Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace(TPM) May 19, 1999 Pros: This movie was made in more modern time so of course it had better CGI graphics and anything else u can think of with camera work. This movie introduced us to young Obi-Wan and who is master was being Qui Gon Jinn a Jedi Knight and his padawan. We had never seen anything like this and it was nice, we got introduced to one of the most bad ass characters being Darth Maul and the beginning stages of Darth Sidious. But most importantly we got introduced to Jar-Jar...... Just kidding I’m talking about Anikan Skywalker as a young boy who is a slave on Tatooine with his mother. But he refers to himself as a human and the only human that can pod race which was a good little thing to put in the middle of the movie as it was something new and fresh. And this movie gave us possible the best or one of the best fights in Star Wars history with Darth Maul vs Qui Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kanobi but sadly gave us the death of Qui Gon. This movie also introduced us to the republic which was the galaxy’a government before the Empire rose up and took control and also the introduction to the Jedi Council and Made Windu as well as Yoda before we met him in ESB. Cons: This movie had its faults like the rest of the prequels but less then more. The poetry almost story telling was one of them but that’s just Star Wars, and the fact that Anikan of all people basically saved Naboo when he blew up the space station, he is just a kid and shouldn’t have given that too him just yet. Another thing was letting Obi-Wan train Anikan since he just got to the rank of Jedi Knight, they should’ve had someone more experienced take that role Conclusion: “The Phantom Menace” takes approximately 32 years before “A New Hope” which is a big time jump especially for a prequel but makes since because Anikan was 9 and turns 10 during the film. But this film was a good starter to the prequels and gave us good characters to lead with for the next two movies. But the most interesting thing is the the song played during the final battle called “Duel of the Fates” this song is playing because whoever is the last one of the three will train Anikan, either Qui Gon will train him to the good side, Obi-Wan will train him but not as well as he just got the rank of Jedi Knight, or Maul will train him inevitably turning him to the dark side. We also ominously get introduced to Shiv Palpatine which we all know will be the Emperor. But this was a good film to start the prequels and I give it a 5.5/10.
