I’m actually surprised you didn’t like the end. I never saw it as a gag. She said if these people die “I’ll kill you”. She did kill him. He so desperately wanted a long life, he wasn’t ready to die in six months, now he died a day later. I see it all as a tragedy that unfortunately Ford never learned. You mentioned “maturity”, this episode we really start to see the painful events of her life stack up. I’ve been saying in the last ten years “it’s like the more I learn, the less I know”. Buffy is learning that much earlier in her life.

I didn’t realize if I hit enter the message sends. I did have one more mini novella to throw out there. So the first time I started watching Buffy I was 11/12 years old. Growing up with the characters and the show, plus in those days older men with younger women was extremely normalized to me. Now as I’ve gotten older, I see so much I never could have. Though, I’ve seen this show a ridiculous amount of times, I’m always experiencing it a new. Angel the human was living in the 1700’s. Life back then was about struggle and survival. Good qualities, maturity, dreams, goals, fun, free time, character development, none of it existed. He died young, stunted. Then as a demon (Angelous) he was dead. A buck time later he’s cursed to live over those years of trauma for the next hundred years, the horror that his own hands caused/did. Trauma often stunts our development. Like you said, I don’t think he’s let himself feel anything more than pain till he met Buffy. The age gab is still insane, but I’d say Angel is still yet to mature himself.

I think it's interesting returning to shows later in life we used to love. I've experienced this with certain media and I never know if I'll like it the same. I think it's a testament to something if it does hold up even after the years, and especially if it gets better in some way. My commentary on Angel is really ongoing. The parts I liked this episode were the beats of his individual character, and it was the age gap and dynamic of the relationship that's really where my criticism was centred. I'm always going to be open to things changing as they go on, so I'm interested to see where he goes.
