Beta Update - The Rewrittening - 7/19/22 (Patreon)

Rewrites are complete!

The story has grown from ~178k to 224,422 words, which is a very satisfying number and also a nearly 46k increase.

It has been recoded from the ground up, which means any old saves will definitely be broken and you'll need to start back from the beginning.

Some major changes in the new version:

  • I've added title cards, as well as title graphics to some of the menu pages.
  • In addition to the Profile and Relationship menus, there's now also a Codex! It contains character profiles of the main case, supporting case, and some lore tidbits as well.
  • The option to use custom pronouns for your Speaker, as well as multiple pronouns!
  • A few other customization options, like heterochromatic eyes, and a body type choice! I've kept it fairly vague because there's no way I can possibly include every single variation on human body types, but if there are any you'd like to see added please let me know!
  • I've split the bold/reserved stat so that that one only applies to romantic situations, with a separate easygoing/assertive stat for more general social situations.
  • There's a option to toggle on the option to custom name your saves. It's off by default, but you can choose to turn it on in the Settings menu.
  • And finally, the biggest change: I've added the option for Li to be non-binary! You can still choose for them to be Liam or Lily, but now there's a third option as well. Xe just goes by Li, and uses xe/xem pronouns. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time, but knew it would involve a lot of recoding--and since I was already recoding, it was the perfect time to do it!

So there is a lot of new words, but technically no new content. This is just a rewrite of the Prologue and chapters 1-3. But now with this done, I can finally get started on chapter 4 and what comes next!

EDIT: first-time load is crazy slow right now, I'll see what I can do to fix that, but it does load eventually, and only seems to have that problem the first time you open it.

Yaaaaaas! Bugs I've found: Seers + Speaker codex Error: the passage "seers=and-speakers-profile" does not exist In personality and skills the second bullet point goes like this: * You tend to speak your mind in social situations. Thank you for your efforts on this :)

thank you for catching those! the first was caused by a = where a - should have been, and the second was due to an extra > bracket because code is particular like that, but they should be fixed now 😁

I literally burst into the kitchen when I got the beta update email and shouted that a Speaker update just dropped, to which my spouse replied, oh that one you've been hoping for with the clairvoyant twins! :D I have been furiously reading and documenting any issues, brace yourself. Please feel free to let me know if there's a better format or medium/platform to share this sort of thing! Thank you again for this wonderful world. oh wow, thank you so much! both for your kind words and for finding all those bugs and typos! I've been trying to squash them as I find them, but all of those had snuck past me. They should all be fixed now 😁💙 thank you again!

Oops, just checked my phone notes and more Speaker notes were hiding there: After Speaker greets Seer at breakfast in the prologue, eye color stat "As if she can feel you watching her, she looks up from her food and meets your eyes, their $eye color so much like your own" Possibly missing a phrase after dog? "Grocery shopping isn't the most exciting or glamorous way to spend a day, but until your dog, you need to eat, so it's something that needs to be done. If not today, then soon." Is the three words referring to what Speaker wrote down? "You don't say anything in response oh, both of you just staring at the paper and its three lonely words."
