people def gassed ice spice’s popularity, having a singular viral moment doesn’t equate to universal popularity, then people wonder why the girl’s album sales is in the gutter and she struggling to get a hit, I think people only tolerated ice spices existent when she was this cute girl from the Bronx doing her cute lil songs, and then she started getting into the proxy rap girl beef and then it got weird, but I think when she dropped that fart song is when people started being like ok this girl is unserious, Ik I did, it was that and her beefing with latto out of nowhere like idk if she started doing that to prove her loyalty to nicki or something but it was weird cus it really don’t gotta be like this, her being cool with other rap girls actually would’ve been in her best interest cus we all know how Nicki be with the rap girl there’s always an expiration date, so she fell out with Nicki, she being weird with cardi and latto, the underground rap girls don’t fuck wit her, and the general public for sure don’t fuck with her, and she don’t even got her own music to fall back on cus it’s generally not that great, nobody talks about ice spice outside the context of her music and when people do talk about it it’s always about how her shit sounds like nursery rhymes, so she don’t even got that 😭

I’ve always said that Capital records needs to put more money behind Doechii than Ice Spice. Doechii just released my favorite female rap project of the year. She had to grind for her career and position, and still isn’t where she should be compared to someone like Ice Spice because she’s dark skinned. It’s never a fair world for dark skin women, especially in the entertainment industry. Also, I remember when Baby Storme released those text messages between her and Ice Spice, Ice was talking about Doechii while they were on tour together. She was lowkey downplaying the fact that Doechii experienced colorism in the industry. So yea, I agree that Ice Spice is a colorist. Also, she doesn’t seem like the brightest crayon in the box with how she responded to this situation with Cleo. She’s weird.

as someone who actually heard ice's album in full...it's one of the most pointless projects I've heard all year. even though it's only 10 songs and about 20 minutes long, it STILL DRAGS FOR TOO LONG bc it's obvious she has NOTHING to talk about!!! her debut EP from last year felt more exciting and fresh bc we weren't familiar w/ her formula, but now it's clear she hasn't grown from the success she's had since her breakthrough. artist development is needed for sure treating an opening act for your first big (headlining???) tour like that is CRAZY, esp. for an album this boring

it is true that it can take one big song to make your career skyrocket, but the difference b/w Sabrina and Ice is Sabrina had time to prepare for a big break while Ice just got here. Sabrina's dealt w/ bad contracts and public scrutiny and being an opening act on multiple tours before becoming a major popstar, but Ice hasn't had to grind or struggle, like Cleo said. when an artist gets viral off their first hit or two, they gotta strategize a long-term plan w/ their team quick or else they'll become a has-been as soon as they pop off.

I'm here to get my lashings since I was one of the people pushing Ice Spice. I knew she wasn't really talented, but I did call her the people's princess. I knew she was done when she signed to Nicki Minaj. Nicki doesn't want her to be better than her, not that she had that raw potential in the first place. She jumped in the Nicki Cardi beef because she's a Barb (remember the Nicki flag in her bedroom?). Her poorly disguised scat fetish didn't help anything.

The points you made at the end were so poignant about how race, colorism, texturism and featurism play a huge part in your opportunities, for all women but especially Black women. When you are so close to the pinnacle of beauty but fall short in one way, it hurts to see all the women who look close to you but have that one missing factor pop off. I remember that video of Doja Cat talking about how she struggled with her hair but at least she was thick. I don't blame Biracial people for being aware of the pyramid of pretty privilege, since people have been gushing over their looks since they were kids, but they have to do the internal work, like we all do, to check the anti-Blackness we learn in this anti-Black world.

SO glad you mentioned her weird tangent on Doechii. I remember that and immediately scrunching my face at the time. Also her response to the Cleo situation was the most stereotypically light skinned response ever. "You tryna be in the bed with me or something?" and "This is what I get for tryna be a good person." She really tried to play the Cleo being 'obsessed' and 'jealous' card, as a lot of light skin girls (esp from the Bronx) do. Let's not forget, Ice is half Dominican. They have their own brand of colorism in their community, and in NYC the thirst for "Spanish girls" is so real. She's been on that pedastal her whole life, I'm sure.

Facts. Doja has a lot of talent/popularity/hits under her belt so if anything, the girlies wanna work with Doja more so than the other way around (imo). Saweetie route would have been great. Saweetie is seemingly* more aware of colorism though so I think that adds to her likability.

I think it slipped out that Riot and Ice were dating when that whole Ice and Central C dating rumor was bubbling and nobody bought it, but it still makes hella sense as to why the beats are SO stale. Especially when Ice literally said she references herself when making new music. Riot's dad is also a DJ from Hot97 so he's somewhat connected? Regardless, there was truly never a REAL grind for her. Nicki collabing was one thing, but I highkey blame Taylor Swift too. She called Ice a "true artist," and "the one to watch," during that collab all for damage control, plus pushed their whole PR 'bestie' moment even when Ice looked lost and confused the whole time. The PinkPanthress remix was perfect because the song was a bop and they were BOTH upcoming artists. Plus the song was more adaptable for Ice's sound and Y2K image. I was never really an Ice Spice truther, more so indifferent, so that Boy's a Liar trajectory would have been fine...but then we got the Matt Healy of it all. 🙄

So many people get on the internet to talk about pretty privilege without actually knowing what it is. Pretty privilege is not just about being attractive, it’s rooted in white supremacy. Your proximity to whiteness (lighter skin, smaller facial features, straight or very loose textured hair) ranks you on the spectrum of pretty privilege. With that being said, by definition, black women can never benefit from pretty privilege. As Kenya stated, the most beautiful black woman in the world would still be second to the most basic white woman. EX: to me, ice spice is decent in terms of beauty. Cleo is gorgeous, but the overwhelming majority can’t even see Cleo in comparison to ice spice, reason being bc she has a closer proximity to white beauty standards, in her case skin color.
