Greetings Patrons,

This is a house, deep in the forest, occupied by a strange old crone. No one can remember her ever not being there. The legend is that she's a banshee in mortal form. She seems kind enough at first, but if you don't flatter her, or bring her gifts, she gets cranky. Most of the time she putters about, tending to the fire, brushing her long grey hair, and imagining a world she thinks she deserves.

This is a fairly quiet ambience. The house, despite the fire, is still chilly. The vines that make up a large part of the roof have gaps in them. An old rocking chair sometimes moves on its own.

The orchestration here is piano, strings, and voices. Woodwinds add some nice melodic flourish. It's foreboding, but not quite ominous. There's a hint of pathos in it as well.

As this is in patron-only sneak-peek mode, I've attached the mixed version (live on the site next week) as well as music-only, and ambience-only versions. Additionally, I've created 2 versions without the banshee (no footsteps, vocalizations, puttering etc) for utility.

Once again, I've pulled a loop from this that I thought worked well. A few of you told me that your player/system/device didn't like the .ogg format (which, as I've mentioned is superior for creating seamless loops) so I've added an .mp3 version of the same file. You should only use this as a last resort. I also added an .mp3 version of the loop to last week's 'Long Rest'

If you are looking for an excellent free multi-format, cross-platform audio player, I recommend Foobar 2000.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

This is a great one. I’m gonna use it for my next witch/hag encounter.

Wow...love this piece. There's a lot going on, as you described, and I think it will be a very interesting piece to work with. For example, I was thinking some of the coughing/voices might be ghosts or whatnot....perhaps kept there unwillingly in half-life by this dominant banshee. The relatively calm, yet foreboding ambience lends well to some interesting roleplaying opportunities. Anyway, great work and I appreciate all the variations. Cheers! :)
