Greetings Patrons,
Here is the 32nd installment of the SoundPad series, "Ancient Greece".
This was an interesting project because classical antiquity, medieval Europe, and fantasy all share many similar themes and ideas. For each of these sounds, I attempted to bring in unique qualities that highlighted my notion of this time and place. As most of you know already, when given a choice between historically accurate, and cool - I almost always go with cool.
I emphasized a lot of locations in this one. Similar to the basic environments I did in the DM Tools SoundPad, most of these are one-click background sounds that establish a place and provide a backdrop for storytelling. They range from outdoor nature sounds in the Greek countryside, to city locations, events and a few interiors.
As for the combat sounds, all of these can be combined with the others in this series (once I add this to Custom SoundPad). A few new additions are the shield wall, the spear thrust, the hawk attack, and the warhammer. The bow sounds are slightly different as I separated the draw and the loose sounds. There are 2 loose sounds: a single shot, and a terrifying volley. I thought a dramatic pause after the draw sound could be fun.
I'm really pleased with the way the tones came out. There are 4 here that you can mix and match and they sound quite good when playing them all together. A slight aside: I bought myself a ney flute recently and it took me 3 weeks to be able to make a single sound on it. So the flute tone is me after 8 weeks of practice.
The 3 musical tracks are combinations of Greek percussion and modern elements. One of my favorite new tricks is to record an unplugged electric violin to recreate almost any old-style bowed instrument. You can hear this on the track, "Far From Home".
SoundPads are a ton of work and I always feel a little spent after finishing one, but clicking around one that I've just finished and seeing how it all works together is a great feeling, so I'm sure more will be coming.
[Removed the section about being in sneak-peek mode, it's now live]
I've attached a .zip file of all the sounds here for Patrons.
(I know you'd all love downloads of the earlier SoundPads and I promise I will get to those. They need a bit of reworking as I've changed a lot of the workflow over the years.)
Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.
Best,
Tim
