Greetings Patrons,

It's interesting how often requests come in clusters. This month has seen an uptick in the number of requests for Wuxia style ambiences. As I'm not too well versed in this genre beyond the most popular films, I set out to remedy that.

I probably watch films a little differently from most people when I'm doing this type of research. I get really excited and rewind things that would probably bore you to tears. I'm always looking for a type of vocabulary that the film maker uses to describe location and situation. And I know it as soon as I hear it. Imagine Sergio Leone's "Dollars'" trilogy in your mind and you can probably here bootsteps with spurs, hawks crying, and of course Morricone's (RIP) iconic soundtrack/sound design.

There are actually quite a lot of audio similarities between a Wuxia style piece and a typical western.  The differences are there though and I tried to highlight them without, you know HIGHLIGHTING them.

For the music I went with the some classic Chinese instruments: The Guzheng, the Bawu, a bit of Erhu and some standard percussion and strings to make it seem more like a Wong Kar-wai movie.

And, as I often do, I've included music-only and ambience-only versions of these tracks for patrons.

Special thanks to Nisarga Ravindra   (@nisarga_ravindra on Insta.) for letting me use her lovely art.

Thank you all, as always, for your continuing support.

Best,

Tim

Great track! I've been looking for music to play when my son and I play the old Pirates of the Spanish Main game and this will be good for out scenarios in China. Definitely need more Pirate/ Age of Sail music.
