Chapter 4 – The Darkness of the Todou Family ※

In a particular apartment complex in Tokyo.

There is a place where the Todou family, which has produced generations of politicians, has prepared for their activities in the capital.

The door to one of the rooms in this apartment – used as a study by the head of the family for generations – creaked open without a knock.

“Father, are you here?”

It was Naohiro, the second son, who had come to visit.

“Since the door is already open, it’s obvious that I’m here. If you really want to make sure, at least knock first,” the father replied.

“Ahaha, sorry, sorry. I’ll be more careful from now on.”

“Hmph…”

Seemingly tired of this exchange that had been repeated hundreds of times, Hirotsugu remained silent and snorted unpleasantly through his nose.

“By the way, I came here to confirm something. Have the matters regarding the hospital already been settled?”

“Yes. That woman will inform us if there’s any news.”

“Hahaha! And just like that, obstetrics and gynecology became the enemy of pregnant women in this country. What happened to the medical ethics and morals they always talk about?”

Hirotsugu shook his head slowly in response to Naohiro’s words.

“There are no “ethical problems” here. They’re just trying to repay the good intentions of the in-laws, who want to help a woman who’s suffering from the loss of her husband and a late-term birth.”

The father, who had a poor relationship with his son and daughter-in-law when he was alive and did not even attend his son’s funeral when he died, learned one day that his daughter-in-law was pregnant with his grandchild and struggling with a delayed birth.

This led the repentant father to vow to do everything in his power to ensure the safe birth of his grandchild.

Although this may seem like a cheap plot, it is precisely because of this that it can easily evoke understanding and sympathy of many.

Moreover, the character holds the title of a member of the National Diet(Japanese Parliament).

Many citizens may feel distrust and disgust toward politicians, but this is mainly due to the fact that they have always been viewed from a general perspective and thus end up being hard to recognize individually.

But when a person comes face to face with a politician and the politician treats him with a certain amount of humility, you may be surprised to find that you just can’t bear to have bad feelings toward him.

This comes the touching episode described from before.

“You may not know it, but it’s quite easy for a representative to get positive evaluations like ‘he’s quite nice now that I’ve seen him personally and so on.’“

“Hmm. That’s good and all. But wouldn’t it be inconvenient if she had to transfer to another hospital?”

“Even if they try, it won’t be easy. Pregnant women cannot be transferred to another hospital without the permission of their primary physician.”

There may be pregnant women who need to be transferred due to unavoidable circumstances. Still, in such cases, it is essential to get information from the primary physician’s records first.

There is no doctor who would accept a late-term pregnant woman without medical records, especially in this day and age.

Even if the transfer request were granted, the information would still be reported to the family’s parents or guardians, which in this case are both the Todou and Fuchigami families.

And even when there are disagreements,

“She’s just nervous, so please support her behind the scenes for us.”

He could say such simple words, and just like that, he would be the subject of sympathy.

After all, the person they were dealing with was a member of the Diet with a high level of social credibility.

“As long as we know where the birth will take place, we can reach out to them to help in any way we want.”

“Heh, in my opinion, it should have been better to act like this behind the scenes from the beginning instead of approaching those fools and informing them personally, considering all you have done to them. Or rather, because you did all of these useless things that they caused a lot of trouble for you in the first place. All because you were too greedy, thinking that a pregnant woman who has lost her husband would be weakened enough to be willing to stand next to you during your speech. Father, you always lack thoroughness in these aspects, don’t you?”

“Hmph…”

Hirotsugu wrinkled his nose in displeasure and looked away from his disrespectful son’s remark.

Regarding this matter, Hirotsugu admits that his own thinking was naive, as he thought it would be easy to convince Yasue since Yoichi is no longer present in this world.

But in the end, Yasue is still the daughter of those Fuchigamis.

Looking at it calmly, it was easy to imagine that her parents would interfere, and even she personally will not be an easy person to deal with.

“But hey, isn’t it risky for you to rely on such a leisurely, not to mention unstable, plan? What will you do if it doesn’t work out in time for the election?”

“Hmm…”

Right, that was the pressing issue at hand.

Hirotsugu thought that they would give birth soon since it was a late-term birth, but even now, there was still no sign of it coming.

Once the child was born, he would be able to handle the rest. But if it doesn’t happen, winning this woman over such militant parents would be just a dream.

“Just as I thought. Don’t worry, I’ve already taken measures for that, as expected from the capable me.”

Suddenly, Naohiro blurted out these words.

“What are you talking about?”

Fearing what his son had said, Hirotsugu felt a cold sweat run down his back.

“Well, I just thought that since it would take too long for her to come out on her own, how about we pull the child out of her ourselves?”

“What are you saying? Are you planning to use an underground doctor?”

“An underground doctor? I can’t arrange something that complicated.”

“Then how?”

“Well, just cut open the belly and yank it out?”

Hirotsugu felt a shiver run down his spine when his son casually said this.

“If you do that…,” he began to say.

“Well, my sister-in-law probably won’t be able to bear it. Actually, it’s cruel to put her through such pain, so I was thinking of stopping her breathing first before doing it.”

…What is he saying?

While pondering this question, Hirotsugu continued to ask.

“And what if the baby dies?”

“Isn’t that okay?”

“Huh?”

“A politician who tragically lost his son, his daughter-in-law, and the grandchild she was carrying in her belly. Yeah, I think that will get the votes pouring in,”

Naohiro replied with his usual casual tone and expression, as if he were having an everyday conversation.

Deep inside, Hirotsugu felt fear and disgust, but he didn’t show it.

He couldn’t let Naohiro know that his own father was despising him.

That’s the way he felt it should be.

“But don’t worry, everything has been arranged,” when Naohiro said that, Hirotsugu thought that he had to stop him somehow before he started to do something strange.

So he instinctively got up from his seat.

“Are they already taking action!?”

“Of course! I caused you a lot of trouble in my younger days, but it wasn’t for naught. Or rather, the connections I made back then are finally proving useful. With this, I can finally show my filial piety,” Naohiro replied.

“Wait—”

At that moment, the sound of a smartphone ringing echoed through the room.

“Oh, oops, I have a meeting to attend right now.”

“Hey, Naohiro—!”

“Well then, please wait for the good news! Oh, hello, it’s me—”

“Hey!!”

Hirotsugu hastily called out, but he couldn’t do anything more. He only watched in shock as his second son left the room, holding the smartphone to his ear.

“Ugh…”

Hirotsugu stared at the door for a while, as if in a daze, before collapsing onto the chair, groaning softly as he covered his face with both hands.

“Where did… I go wrong…?”

There was no answer to the question that slipped out of Hirotsugu’s covered face.

〇●〇●

“Ah… ah…! Mr. Councilor!! More… Harder harder…!”

This time, a young woman’s voice echoed across the room.

The woman was on all fours on the bed, being penetrated from behind by an older man.

The dark-skinned organ repeatedly entered and exited her moist orifice, glistening with her arousal. The junction was filled with frothy white secretions, evidence that they had been having this intercourse for some time.

With every thrust of the man’s hips, the firm, white buttocks trembled.

“Ah…! M-Mr. Councillor… please… stop… I’m going to… come again…!”

The woman, her lengthy hair in disarray, moaned briefly before arching her back and experiencing a brief spasm.

Meanwhile, the man continued to move his hips mercilessly.

Eventually, the woman’s arms seemed to lose strength, and she fell to her knees, her buttocks raised as she leaned her upper body limply against the bed.

“Mmm… no more… any more of this… and I’ll go… crazy…”

Though her words were weak, the woman’s lower body couldn’t help but move slightly in response to the man’s movements, contrasting with her limp upper body.

“Guuh… I’m about to cum…!”

The man, showing signs of reaching his limit, let out a short moan.

“Ah… Mr. Councilor… it’s okay, just let it out inside me…!”

“Kuaah…!!”

After a short gasp, the man pressed his groin against the woman’s buttocks and stiffened.

“Ah…! It’s filling me… I can feel Mr. Councilor’s thick essence entering me…”

Soon, their bodies, which had been in a state of rigidity, relaxed, and the man withdrew his organ as he leaned back, creating a gap.

Semen leaked from the still-open vaginal entrance, its gap serving as proof that they had been doing this for quite some time.

After showering, the woman quickly got ready while the man just wiped his groin with the tissues provided. He sat on the bed, wearing a robe, seemingly exhausted.

“It’s there, on the table, as always.”

Following the man’s gesture, there was a table on which a slightly thicker package was casually placed.

“Hehe! As always, thank you for the regular gifts, Mr. Todou!”

The woman said, picking it up and putting it in her bag.

“It is I who should be grateful for keeping me company for so long. At my age, it must have been hard for you to accommodate an old man like me. It must have been unsatisfying, frustrating even,” Hirotsugu, also known as Councilor Todou, said with a wry smile.

“Eh, but even if you say that, Mister Todou is always so tough and big! Besides, I like Mister Todou’s dick the best!”

“Haha, but without pills, my thing wouldn’t even twitch.”

Hirotsugu chuckled self-deprecatingly.

It had been years since he had been unable to maintain an erection and had to resort to erection-enhancing drugs.

Lost in such thoughts, the woman suddenly hugged him.

“Hehe, so you even take pills just to have sex with me. I’m so happy!”

“Hey, hey.”

Knowing that it was just social niceties, Hirotsugu couldn’t help but feel a little irritated by this behavior.

But since she never left him alone, Hirotsugu looked at her face and saw that she was looking at him with a serious expression for some reason.

“Hey, don’t you ever think about leaving your wife and being together with me?”

After staring at each other in silence for a while, Hirotsugu burst out laughing uncontrollably.

“Hahaha! Me, divorce my wife? That’s absurd. It’s not going to happen.”

While saying that, Hirotsugu pushed the woman he was holding onto and stood up.

“Wow, you really love your wife, don’t you?”

Although the woman seemed slightly displeased, she seemed somewhat impressed by Hirotsugu’s answer as he shrugged nonchalantly.

“Love? Her? That’s impossible!”

Hirotsugu continued, looking at the woman who tilted her head curiously.

“But if I were to divorce my wife, that would be the end for me. I would have nothing.”

Todou Hirotsugu was a member of the Lower House of the House of Representatives, one of the two houses of the National Diet that holds legislative power in Japan.

But in reality, he was nothing more than the Todou family’s son-in-law – an outsider with no power in the household.

If he separated from Yoko, he would lose his political base.

His chances of winning the elections would be nothing more than a dream, and all the career achievements and connections he had built up would be nothing more than an empty shell.

This was the path Hirotsugu would end up on if he lost his connection with Todou Yoko.

“Hmm, how boring.”

“Yes, it’s boring. That’s how boring I am! I can’t have young women without money and drugs. Pathetic!”

He suddenly started saying these things because the possibility of losing the election was becoming more realistic, and he was becoming desperate.

While feeling strangely passionate, Hirotsugu analyzed himself with a sobering realization.

“I find it kind of cute, though…”

The woman mumbled softly and hugged Hirotsugu gently.

For some reason, Hirotsugu didn’t resist this time and let it happen.

After a while, the woman released the hug, picked up her bag from the bed, and headed for the door.

When she reached for the doorknob and turned around, she had a soft smile on her face.

“If you don’t mind, you can call me anytime. I don’t mind having an affair with Mr. Councilor.”

She laughed lightly, opened the door, and walked out.

Hirotsugu stood motionless for a while, then staggered to the bedside and sat down with a deep sigh.

“Why did it come to this…”

A whisper without a tone escaped Hirotsugu’s mouth.

“If only he had done what I said back then…!”

He was reminded of the fight that led to Yoichi’s runaway.

It would have been better if the fistfight between the young men had ended in a double knockout.

That way, they would have received a stern warning, and the Todou family wouldn’t have had to intervene.

“We cannot allow anything to tarnish the name of the Todou family!”

But since that didn’t happen, Yoko, Hirotsugu’s wife, stubbornly demanded punishment for the other party and no punishment for Yoichi.

Of course, Hirotsugu wanted to convince her somehow, but since he was the one married to the family, he had no say in the matter.

In reality, Yoko was the one with considerable power in the family.

In the end, things went as she planned, but because of that, Yoichi beat Hirotsugu and left home.

To be honest, Hirotsugu couldn’t really understand Yoichi’s feelings.

He, too, had gone through the normal rebellious phase of adolescence and had clashed with his parents more than once.

But Yoko, who was a daughter of a good family, was really shocked and deeply hurt by her son’s defiant actions this time.

She reflected on her own actions, but unfortunately, they were going in the wrong direction.

“It is because of my poor upbringing that Yoichi turned out like this. Because we didn’t give him enough love! So this time, I will take responsibility and raise Naohiro with love!”

After that, Yoko started to work on Naohiro’s upbringing with burning enthusiasm, but it ended up only focusing on indulgence.

And because Yoko would forgive anything, Naohiro’s behavior deteriorated rapidly.

“I’m sorry… he did this because we didn’t give him enough love… But it’s okay now. Naohiro said he’s really repentant!”

How many times had he heard that?

Hirotsugu himself had scolded Naohiro, but whenever he did, his son would just run to his mother. As a result, Yoko would direct her unreasonable anger at Hirotsugu.

But then Hirotsugu remembered what had happened the other day.

Seeing his own child, and the way he casually suggested that he would cut open Yoichi’s wife’s belly and yank out the baby.

Right after that, Hirotsugu rushed to visit Yoko.

He pleaded to her, telling her that something was wrong with Naohiro’s behavior and that he had to stop her son as soon as possible.

But Yoko just nodded weakly and shook her head.

“I’m sorry, it’s because I didn’t give enough love…”

“I’m tired of hearing that line! We have to stop Naohiro as soon as possible!”

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”

Later, Hirotsugu learned from the servants of the Todou family that Yoko had been subjected to Naohiro’s violence on a regular basis for quite some time.

It was also revealed that Yoko had been covering up Naohiro’s misdeeds without his knowledge.

Even though the number of cases that Hirotsugu himself had covered was quite significant, the number of instances that Yoko had secretly covered was also quite large, and they were far from trivial.

“Damn it! If only she… If only Yoko had controlled those properly.”

Hirotsugu, dressed in a bathrobe, sat on the edge of the bed, holding his head.

If only Naohiro had been a decent person, he wouldn’t have had to suffer like this…

As long as he could secure the party’s support, he would have a chance to win the election…

But without the party’s support, even worse, if the second son’s notoriety spread, the opposition party would instead cooperate to overthrow Hirotsugu.

Or the ruling party might appoint another strong successor.

Either way, he would lose the election.

“I didn’t do anything…”

If only Naohiro hadn’t caused problems…

If Yoko hadn’t interfered with Naohiro’s education…

If Yoko hadn’t interfered with Yoichi’s problems in the first place…

And even before that, if Yoichi hadn’t caused any problems…

He hadn’t done anything, so why did he have to suffer like this?

“Well, it’s probably because you didn’t do what you were supposed to do that this is happening to you.”

Suddenly, a man’s voice rang out from behind him.

Hirotsugu quickly sat up and looked in the direction of the voice, only to see a man in work clothes looking at him with a disdainful expression.

〇●〇●

“Wh-Who are you?”

Startled, Hirotsugu stood up and took a step back from the man who suddenly appeared, raising his voice in question.

“I am Todou Yoichi.”

“Huh?”

Hirotsugu, who had been on high alert and surprised by the unexpected intruder, froze with a foolish expression on his face when he heard the same name as his son.

“Oh, your reaction is as expected.”

Yoichi said with a malicious grin.

“By the way, the “To” in Todou(藤堂(Todou)) is spelled as Wisteria(藤), so you have nothing to worry about me being related to that family. Well, I did have a slight connection with your son, though.”

“How did you get in…?”

“Uh, through the front door like a normal person?”

Although Yoichi answered Hirotsugu’s question in a deliberately playful manner, he was not lying.

As you know, by using [Appraisal+], he can see everything about the person being appraised, from their past to their present.

What they were doing and what they were thinking at any given moment, even their thoughts about the future if they were thinking about it, can all be predicted based on this skill.

“Really now. Giving gifts to young girls and taking them to your room… That’s practically prostitution, isn’t it? What happened to the ethics of being a member of the Diet…”

Yoichi had already investigated and knew that Hirotsugu had a close relationship with a woman and the hotel he always used.

It would have been inconvenient if they had walked into a love hotel or something like that. Still, since Hirotsugu had already made reservations, it was easy to find the room they would arrive in.

After looking for a room on the same floor, he was lucky enough to find an empty room across from Hirotsugu’s. He entered the room while the woman he was dealing with was finishing up, timing it so that he entered just as she was leaving.

The woman from earlier hadn’t noticed Yoichi’s presence at all because she was wearing a highly effective magic device to inhibit recognition.

“What you need to do as a parent when your son talks about cutting open a pregnant woman’s belly is not to frivolously shake your hips on a young woman’s behind, which, by the way, is almost tantamount to prostitution, but to stop him properly…”

“I-I have no knowledge of this! I haven’t done anything! It’s all Yoko’s fault for raising our child wrong!”

For Hirotsugu, the current Yoichi was a downright suspicious character.

Normally, he could just ignore the words of such a person, but due to his confusion and the considerable guilt he felt, he ended up defending himself as prompted.

“This is exactly why such things are not good. It’s common sense for parents to scold their children when they do something wrong, right? Well, I’ve never raised a child, so it’s not really my place to say.”

“Shut up! I don’t know anything! I’m not involved!”

“Hmm, or rather, regardless of the parent-child relationship, if you’re warned about committing such an atrocity as cutting open a pregnant woman’s belly, it’s the duty of a citizen to stop it, right? Like, you should report it to the police or something right away.”

“If I were to do such a thing, I…”

“Well, as a member of the Diet, you should be even more aware of the importance of ensuring the safety of the citizens.”

“Shut up, you intruder! Entering a hotel room without permission is an illegal act!”

“Oh, well, when you say that, I feel a little weak.”

Even as he said that, Yoichi showed no signs of remorse.

But Hirotsugu interpreted it otherwise.

“Looks like you still have an active brain in you. Very well, I’ll let it go this time, so you should be grateful. Leave this room immediately!”

“You say that, but you plan to use your connections to hunt me down later, don’t you?”

“Damn… why did you come here in the first place?”

“What was that quote again? Ah.”

“Even to the extent of touching sleeves with strangers while walking down the street is due to the destiny of a previous life. No matter how small things or negotiations with people are, they don’t just happen by chance. They all happen because of a deep connection beyond time and space, a realm not one of us is aware of.”

“As someone who was involved in the same accident, my consciousness can’t bear to leave this one alone…”

“The same accident? Come to think of it, there’s a record like that…”

When Hirotsugu was looking at the results of the accident investigation, he remembered that there was a homonym for his surname, and here, his mouth curled into a grin.

“Hah, what an idiot! Now that I realize that you were involved in the same accident as Yoichi, your identity is as good as confirmed!”

“Oh really? How would you do that?”

“How, you say? Just by investigating, the police would easily find out!”

“Hmm… Well, it would be nice if the police would believe your words when you come back after this.”

“What…?”

“Anyway, shall we go now?”

“Eh?”

The next moment, Yoichi was right in front of Hirotsugu’s eyes.

And as soon as he felt a light touch on his chest, Hirotsugu lost all his strength and collapsed on his knees, falling backward and losing consciousness.

On Hirotsugu’s fallen chest, there was a piece of paper that soon began to crumble, and a few seconds later, it disappeared.

“Phew, it seems the activation went smoothly.”

What Yoichi used to take away Hirotsugu’s consciousness this time was a scroll imbued with the magic of [Fainting].

While it was known that wizardry and sorcery from the other world could not work in this world, this proves the reverse for the magic tools.

After investigating with [Appraisal+] using the same logic, Yoichi discovered that scrolls could also be used, as long as they were imbued with enough mana. So, he prepared one with an added effect that would forcefully extract the user’s magic power upon contact.

This scroll was strictly controlled by the Mage Guild and had been obtained as a reward for the monster stampede that happened in Meilgrad a while back. It was obtained from Hortense, who was not only the Guild Master of the Magic Guild but also the mother of Alana.

And now, Yoichi has made the full use of it today, for a reason the maker would probably never be able to think of — and that is incapacitating a member of the parliament in another world that was devoid of any mana.
