Chapter 7 – Mission Cleared…?

“This may be rude of me, or rather, this would be the epitome of rudeness even after all that happened, but I came here to ask you another favor.”

Despite her gentle tone, the golden eyes behind the thick eyelids were looking at me as if they were filled with a strong will.

“Could you meet with the princess again?”

I thought for a moment before I opened my mouth.

“Wouldn’t that be too much of a burden for Lady Lezieune?”

But Nara looked away at my words.

“I heard about her past from other people yesterday, so I think I have a pretty good idea of what’s going on. I also know that you are good friends with Lady Lezieune. So what you’re saying is, you want me to meet with her again, but this time using your friendship as your backing?”

“…yes.”

“Even if you are fully aware that Lady Lezieune might get hurt again?”

“Even so… it must be done.”

At that point, Nara returned her averted gaze to me.

”It’s just… I can’t go on like this. I can keep spoiling her, but she will eventually need a man. That’s why I am willing to risk it one more time. Since Ada took the trouble of introducing you to us, you are not a suspicious person, to say the least. Also… I have this feeling that Sir Alfred is different from the men that came here in the past.”

“Ahaha… well, that’s a pretty cute one.”

“Come again?”

Nara tilts her head at my words. Apparently, she is not aware of it herself?

“That way of talking. It’s much better than before.”

“Huh? Oh! I’m… no, my deepest apologies for my behavior.”

“No, don’t worry about it. Or rather, I prefer if you get informal on us all together because it makes it more comfortable for me to talk to you.”

“I… I see. Then I’ll go with this tone… auuh…”

I couldn’t help but smile at Nara, who was shrinking back in a cute manner.

Ada’s eyes widened in surprise when her tone changed, but now they were replaced by a gentle smile.

“In that case, can I call you Nara too? Unlike Alfred, I’ve been calling you Miss Nara previously, so…”

“Y-yes. Feel free, Mrs. Ada. So… about the princess… no, about big sis…”

“Hmm. Honestly, I came here because I had business with a woman from the Oni tribe. And that business actually ended last night.”

“Eh…?”

“So, I think I no longer have a reason to stay here for longer.”

“No, no way…”

Then, suddenly, Nara kneeled down on the spot.

From sitting upright, which she said she was not good at, she put her hands further down and lowered her head.

And as expected, the lower half of her body showed some its features as the bottom of her skirt was unnaturally raised by her act.

“Please! Just one more time! My big sister… please meet big sister!”

“Wait, wait, no need to create a stir. I’ll listen to your story until the end.”

After soothing Nara, who bowed her head repeatedly, I let her stand up for the time being and continued the talks.

“When I met her yesterday, I honestly thought, ‘What the hell is with this woman? But then I heard what happened, and I became angry in a different way.”

As an modern-age ordinary civilian in my previous life, I don’t understand the value of such things as ancestry and lineage.

However, I can’t overlook the fact that a girl is suffering for the sake of something I don’t understand, such as preserving a precious bloodline.

“I know it’s a bit arrogant of me to say this, but since I think I can resolve it, so I thought I must also do something about it.”

“Sir Alfred…”

“That’s why I’m gonna try it again. But what do you think, Ada?”

“Hm? Me?”

“You’ve been thinking about it a lot since yesterday, but you haven’t given me much of an opinion.”

Ada, who has a complicated expression on her face and has been extremely quiet since yesterday, must be thinking in her own way.

If possible, I would like to hear an objective woman’s opinion.

“Mm… uh huh….”

Ada crossed her arms, slumped down lightly, and then fell silent for a while.

Nara and I watched with bated breath, and soon after, she looked up and began to speak.

“When I heard about the reaction of the princess yesterday, I was a little angry, just like Alfred. After all, it was the first time I saw her speak like that. However, I decided not to think of it too much for the time being, thinking that she must be undergoing some circumstances that a humble peddler could not understand, especially since she’s a family of a different race, more so one that could be called a nobility.”

I was a little relieved to see that Ada apparently has values similar to mine.

“Still, what matters is how the princess feels about it, don’t you think?”

“What big sis feels…”

“If Lezieune is not looking for a man, perhaps respecting her wishes would be most appropriate.”

At these words, Nara and I silently slumped down.

(Is it arrogant of me to think I can do something about it?)

“Or at least, that’s what I think, if I was still the old me.”

Then suddenly, Ada’s tone changed, and she looked at us.

“I also want her to experience the joy of giving birth and raising a child. If she has had a hard time in the past, I want her to feel this happiness even more so.”

As she said this, Ada lovingly rubbed her slightly swollen belly.

Then, she shifted her gaze to me, and with a gentle smile, she asked.

“Alfred. You can do it, can’t you?”

It was a really gentle smile. But her gaze seemed to pierce me sharply as if testing my resolve.

“Ada…”

But before I could give my opinion, Ada, who had been staring at me for a while, suddenly relaxed her gaze and shrugged her shoulders as if somewhat dismayed.

“But who am I to say what you should do? You do what you want. So don’t bother asking me for my opinion.”

――You don’t have to think too hard. Just live the way you want.

――Do according to your heart’s desires.

Ada’s words overlap with the words of the goddesses.

That’s right, I should do what I want to do.

As what I always have done.

“Alright. Let’s go save the Oni Princess!”

“Sir Alfred!”

“Fumu, that’s the spirit.”
