Chapter 10 – Premonition of a Fierce Battle

The following day, I went with Mina, Mary, Ingrid, and Sylvia to the guild branch in Regulus City.

Even though Redone and his Sweeper army had retreated, there was no guarantee that they wouldn’t attack again at any time.

So we need to confirm our future plans.

But when I went to the branch manager’s office, there were already guests waiting for us there.

One of them had dull gray hair and eyes.

He was a young man in leather armor and had a very ordinary appearance.

“Felix?”

Felix Harrion, the adventurer who ranked first in the S-Class.

In addition, on his side, there was also a cool-looking female knight and a short old man with white hair. They were Claudia and Georg, the 3rd and 4th-rank S-Class adventurers, respectively.

“Just in time. We’ve been waiting for you, Lian.”

Felix muttered. Apparently, he’s here for me.

“You have just been assigned to an exploration quest. With me, Georg, and Felix.”

“Don’t you think we’re a pretty unique bunch?”

It was Claudia who informed me next, followed by Georg in a cheerful tone.

“An exploration quest?”

I couldn’t understand what’s happening all of a sudden.

“I apologize for the urgency, Lian.”

Felix bowed his head slightly.

“It is just what I said, an exploration. The location is the Twilight Labyrinth. As Claudia said earlier, the party consists of us four.”

Twilight Labyrinth?”

“It’s the world’s most difficult labyrinth. In the past 300 years, no one has been able to break through them. But there was a rumor that those who can reach the deepest part of the labyrinth will be given great power.”

“The point is──if you reach the deepest part of the labyrinth, you will become stronger,” Claudia adds.

“The power of Redone’s magical armaments is a threat. It seems that they had sporadically destroyed several countries before this and then disappeared ── before showing up again just the other day.”

Felix explained matter-of-factly.

“Now, the said labyrinth was reported to have shown signs of being invaded in earnest. Probably by the said man himself. As for a reason……maybe he wants to gain more power?”

──More power? I don’t think so.

Being the most challenging labyrinth, there should only be one reason.

He wants to have fun.

After all, it was just entertainment for him that he had sent magic armaments on each part of the continent and attacked many towns and people.

He was using his tremendous power as a reincarnated person only for his own enjoyment.

“We need to stop that Redone, and while at it, get that power for ourselves.”

Felix supplemented.

So that was the real reason we need to go to the Twilight Labyrinth – to get more power.

“At the very least, you and Felix were chosen as essential members. As far as I can tell, you two are the only ones who can stand up to that Dark Elf.”

It was Georg who spoke.

“You’re too humble, old Georg. We all know that you are more than capable of fighting him.”

“No, no, I don’t have the strength to fight someone that strong.”

But Georg laughs aloofly at Claudia’s comment.

“Besides, I’d rather leave this to you young men.”

“Young men? I don’t know about you, old man, but I have no intention of retreating.”

Claudia stepped forward as if her pride had been scarred.

“The next time Redone appears, I will defeat him.”

“Fufufu, you are indeed a top-notch swordswoman. if the young ones are also willing to face difficulties like that, we can rest assured that we will be safe in the future.”

“……did you just tell that to fire me up, old Georg?”

“Who knows?”

Georg smiles with an expression that doesn’t reveal his true intentions.

And then, it happened.

[It’s nice to meet you, well, most of you. My name is Redone Irvine.]

A voice echoed loud in the surroundings.

At the same time, something like a movie screen appeared in front of us.

[This broadcast is being sent simultaneously to every major city in the world. Would you mind listening to me for a moment? Well, you got no other choice either way.]

A beautiful dark elf boy smiles refreshingly on the screen.

What the hell is this?

“Video magic……!?”

“Eh?”

“I’ve heard of such a technique existing in the Super Ancient civilizations. As you can see, it was a magic of sending images to remote locations – an advanced technique that is said to have been lost in modern times.”

Felix explained.

[I have great news for you today.]

Redone’s speech began on the screen, and I shifted my gaze to him.

He seems to be in a castle, and he’s sitting on what appears to be an opulent throne.

“I, Redone Irvine, who wrecked you weak lot, will be hosting a festival.”

“A festival, huh,” I muttered to myself.

I suddenly had an awful feeling about this.

Then, as if to confirm my premonition, Redone continued with his story.

“The theme of this festival will be: “A Battle for the Fate of the World.’ Isn’t it exciting, like a fairy tale?”

What’s he talking about……?

If it were the words of an average person, it would just be nonsense.

But not this guy.

He has the power and the army to terrorize the world.

“Sir Lian……”

Mina grabbed my sleeve anxiously.

I squeeze her hand lightly and nod towards her as if to say, ‘it’s okay’.

Mary, Ingrid, and even Sylvia also have grim expressions.

“A week from now, I’m going to unleash all of my magic armaments at once. All over the world, indiscriminately.”

Redone announced with a smile as if he’s promoting an actual festival.

Cheerfully.

Refreshingly.

Innocently.

And full of anticipation.

[This is the same units that raided the guilds of various countries the other day. And now we’re going to do it on a much larger scale. If not stopped, the major cities around the world will be destroyed.]

Redone’s smile deepened.

His long, slit eyes gleamed with a radiant glow.

It’s cheerful but with a hint of madness in it.

[Anyone who wants to stop it can come to me at any time. I will deal with you before that in my castle.]

It was then when three shadows appeared on the side of Redone’s throne.

[With me, along with these guys.]

A half-naked beauty.

A skinny old woman.

An obese boy.

The commander-type sweepers I’d heard so much about – the “Nova-types.”

[That’s it for the broadcast. I’m sure some of you will challenge me. And don’t worry. For I will also give you a grand welcome.]

With those words, the screen suddenly disappeared.

I looked forward, towards the party that was still silent.

“I’m going to the Twilight Labyrinth.”

I told unto Felix.

I’m confident that no matter who I’m up against, I won’t lose, but…

Redone is an exception.

He is a reincarnator like me.

And perhaps the one with the strongest traits, just like me.

In fact, I was the one who was pushed around in yesterday’s fight.

With Sylvia’s support, I was able to somehow overcome it, but I don’t know what will happen next time.

That’s why I need to improve my strength.

I need to get stronger.

I want that power.

And so, with Felix and the others, we started heading to the Twilight Labyrinth──the one which was dubbed as the ‘most dangerous in the whole world’.
