At least it didn't get worse!

I'll probably have to take a break for the holidays. We'll see if I can somehow get ahead, but for now, plan on no chapter on the 26th.

Bad news delivered. On to the chapter!

And the winner of the impromptu forgewagon naming contest is: Stormlock with "Subtlety"!

Thanks for the suggestion! It was so good, I made it the title for this chapter too!

If you can't see your own eyeball... that just means you need a Mirror.

Good chapter, thanks. Is Aura Synergy really at 20/15?

Alexander Dupree

Good to know about th auras per level. Looks like he's going to have to figure out how to do better in all areas though. I'm hoping for a bit of a revalation soon though. Something more than 1 experience worthy... Maybe a way to recursively use mana manipulation?

Has he tried to reduce the mana flowing through his skills to increase his control? Its much easier to fix leaks in a submarine when you are not at depth. Greater pressure leads to more forceful flooding. It can blow out the patches as fast as you try to repair it.

With Rain's near perfect memory it's almost like he is treating the kata mastery like machine learning. I would be curious if that's what he lands on to keep making improvements or if it will be more complicated in the future. Also, the leveling of the kata seems kind of odd. It somewhat depends on his own mastery of each individual aura, but getting it to level 2 and being able to use 3 auras at once would imply that he doesn't necessarily need to master new auras to use them with the skill. As for negative suppression, could it possibly help with leakage? Like make it easier for people to do the same thing Rain is trying to do with his auras? Might be a useful tool to train people on mastering their spells.

How does the new IFF going negative work with giving flat resistance? Previously let’s say rain does 10k direct damage and (to put a number on it) 1k mageburn from heating the environment if he was using immolate. At level 10 IFF allies just had to deal with the mageburn portion since they receive 0% direct output. Now that at level 15 they receive -50% output, does that mean when rain does 10k damage they receive 0 direct damage, 1k hypothetical mageburn AND 5k resistance? can you confirm SS? Or is there some wacky mechanic where they receive the resistance but have to tank the direct attack instead of receiving no direct damage? The first scenario makes the most sense considering the second scenario is a downgrade (you dont even block all direct damage) but I just wonder because if it’s like the first scenario the priority of ethereal aura probably goes way down.

Ok now I want to know what happened with the inverted purify. I assume that it created something that Rain considers to be filth, but what?

Soooooo....can Rain unpurify a Crystal Slime? We should be able to see a new slime variant composed of whatever the system views as the most poisonous, impure, and contaminated substance on the planet.

Surprised Rain hasn't yet tried a simple feed forward perceptron to automate his learning process.

ZeroSkillz

Inverse velocity is going to be a AOE slow? Too bad two of the same aura don’t work at the same time… Unless IFF shenanigans can somehow support “haste on friends, slow on victims”.

Inverse Detection Prank :P "Where the fuck is my Bacon!.....Rainnn !!!"

Chrones

I hope Rain will help Tarny train too, since he's a fellow aura user that'll hit the same pitfalls

tibbish

Maybe he could run the aura 2x? Once for enemies with the assumed mass slow effect and once for allies for speed. We don't know if this is possible yet but conceptually it'd work.

Anonymous

That's a good point. Don't let him practice wrong like Rain did.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

I was one of the people that would never have guessed Aura IFF going in the negative would give most of his auras another function. Pardon me while I eat some delectable crow. Now that being said, that is bananas. He gets 2 uses out of almost all of his auras, practically doubling his capabilities. It gives his attack auras a big dose of mageburn protection, plus what might be a less mana intensive means of protection in elemental lairs. He becomes an off-brand elemental enhancer with his wards. His buff auras now can function as actual debuffs instead of needing to pump them up to a bazillion percent to try it. Detection's negative function makes sense and is cool at the same time. And what about the spells he hasn't gotten yet? Acuity and Precision would be good as debuffs in the opposite direction on top of their cool buff functions. Plus negative Acuity is nice if you're in a ton of pain. Do the negative seasons reduce regen? Does negative Fall make someone starve before your eyes? I'm assuming the negative Empire auras just flat out reduce the stat in question. This chapter is practically nothing but training and exposition, but I enjoyed the way it was presented.

Great chapter. I feel like with the perception upgrades that picking up mana sight to work along side mana manipulation would be a great addition for improving aura efficiency. Additionally it could also unlock hidden skills in the skill trees just like mana manipulation did. On the other hand the leveling would be so slow and I want him to have as many points as possible for tier 4 upgrades. What would his soul be like if he converted the experience to essence from unlocking all 144 tier 4 skill trees for a total of 14400000 XP/Essence? TFTC. See you next week. Happy Holidays.

hmmm I feel like im reading nothing in the last chapters :/

One of the hardest parts of machine learning is choosing good features and labels (inputs/outputs) that can be quantitatively measured to decent accuracy. This doesn’t seem feasible with 1. His shitty mana perception 2. How can you quantify how hard a magical-equivalent muscle is pulling without some kind of metamagic? Also, even if he had a perceptron to predict the quality of an aura based on his inputs, this doesn’t mean the learning process is automated. The perceptron won’t help you choose new points to investigate. You probly want something like a GAN for that.

Imagine if Rain could amplify his crafters this way. Chem Ward to supercharge the fuel making process for Subtlety, Arcane Ward to supercharge his Runecrafter's final product. Everyone was getting excited over PI when IFF was the real MPV.

Thanks for the Chapter! Always look forward to this story.

Also Rain can now start sneaking up on Val, Ameliah, and Tallheart as payback for all the times they surprised him.
