what did we miss that ameliah is running away now? did she feel too attatched to rain?

wanderer117

She thought about it last chapter or the one before. She has abandonment issues and historically has left before those she has grown close to left her.

wanderer117

Great chapter. Kept all the balls in the air and still moved the plot forward. Then finishing with the feels at the end. Great Stuff!

Newguy Roy

Just several stone[s]? lighter and with the beard.

Mike G.

Good stuff... Sad to see her go, but it does fit.

Anonymous

Rain is learning to be hard to people, maybe just in time for some people who really deserve it. Ameliah is beginning to accept having a permanent home maybe? Even a nomadic one

Andrew

Hopefully that’s the last time Ameliah tries to run, but given her past it probably won’t be. At least she is starting to see Ascension as home, something I don’t think she has had since her father died.

Fabhar

She turned around at the end. She *was* heading for the northern mountains, but after her interaction with the slime, she went south instead. Home. To Ascension.

Joe ?

Awwww that was cute

AverageGuy

Stone's right. Uncountable in the context. Though "several" does make me wonder: how much did Rain weigh before?

Andrew

Thank you!

MatrixM

Love this series, man. I'll be back. Took me a moment to process that ending but I'm glad

Thanks

Draugluir

Thanks! Progress with the soul, progress with the gang of dicks, and progress with amelias character! Starting to miss the math though.

Anonymous

He should use prime numbers for his soul. That would be intense and complex.

Zarik0

Nice and long chapter, i love it, a little bit of all thing we love in your chapter (miss the math here :°) It was a little bit distabiliting the 4-5 last chapter with the time skip all time between but now after some time i get used to it and i like it now this format (the storie progress) But you still get the job done building the storie by the little interaction of the character, its impressive with the time skip (its seem natural the change happenning between chapter, character or other) The interaction in the beginning with the report of the activity of Ascension was priceless. Thx

Anonymous

I feel like at the end of the chapter I'm not sure if she is leaving or going back to ascension. Am I just too dense to see what is actually happening? Math is easier to understand than these silly human emotions. Lol

Anonymous

Her goal was the mountains to the north and she headed south. So i'm reasonably sure she's heading back to ascension

Chopper

It's really sad that it was the slime of all things that caused Amelia to head back...

Anonymous

Glad to see the Warframe / Fortuna reference. I always adored that song.

Anonymous

Considering that she's the only Combatant that can reasonably and safely deal with the three thugs and knows it, If she did leave it would show a practically malicious degree of irresponsibility, especially without telling anyone.

Anonymous

Also just recently heard We All Lift Together for the first time so amazing timing and it really is a Great Song. There's a 1 hour and 10 hour loop of it on YouTube.

D

Well, if amelia and rain can ever game together and have children, that one will be a great story for the kids. 'I was ready to leave...' - 'So why did you decide to return to dad?' - 'It wasnt dad, it was dozer...' x))

Anonymous

Though it's great she turned back, that she tried to leave like that at all is kinda sad. But props to Dozer for their level of emotional appeal even in absentia.

No one can get enough of their fav Love Lube dispenser!

Kiwilord

Honestly, Amelia leaving would suck but would be fine. Her leaving out of the blue without even telling anyone is recklessness if not maleficence. Her capabilities are one of the cornerstones on which the group has been making their decisions. To just leave and not let them plan for it is enddangering all of them.

I see it’s time for a trial by fire for Ascension I’ve been wondering when this would happen really, it had to be coming

Ziggy

First off, that was an enjoyable chapter. I'd always wondered what was up with Hegar and them not celebrating after the musk wolf and what it meant for their levels. And you did a great job showing and not telling with Ameliah's thoughts last chapter and jaunt this one. You showed us exactly how someone running away would act, without the over the top, "She was planning to LEAVE and insert dramatic monologue here!" Also! You had Tarny mention chess. I'm not sure if you meant chess or ranks. If you indeed meant chess, I'd recommend italicizing it that way you tend to when someone says an English word the first time. That way we know that Rain has started to teach and play chess with his company.

De por si ya me gustaba la novela, y ahora que colocaste la canción de Warframe más.

Anonymous

ty for the chapter

Damian

Oh well, I guess she left you rain. Now you have to deal with everything yourself.

Anonymous

Ameliah left going north, but at the end it says she's going south. Pretty sure she's going back to Ascension

Kyle

I'm pretty sure we had the chess intro mentioned previously - it was mentioned how clubs was beating rain at it already and he'd only recently learned the game

Ziggy

I believe we saw it mentioned, but if I'm remembering right it was solely from Rain's POV. If the word is the same in English, demonstrating here when someone else brings it up would still be helpful for the first time and show us that they've been playing it that the rest of the company is familiar instead of a one-off.

Anonymous

Chaotic aspects of Rain's soul destabilizing upon being defined/observed/interacted with reminds me very much of a quantum computer. Rain should instead try defining things by observing the ebb and flow of chaos in their presence, essentially replacing the 2D linear notation of bits with 3D qubits(quantum bits). Put simply, a concept such as 'light' would be created/defined by directing the flow of abstract chaos into the specific 3D configuration that results when light is present.

Anonymous

Thought Hegars description of Rain felt a bit mastabatory, Hegar spent a lot of time lost in Rains eyes.

Anonymous

If Rain actual got an attack spell like fireball couldn’t he just machine gun them?

Anonymous

sooooo, they're really flaming aholes. Sigh.

Pedro Villa

Sure. Thats what Endless was presumably famous for, days long nonstop fireball blasting and stuff. Although Rain is lacking the metamagic to make it more than a parlor trick.

Tycho Green

Sheer power wouldn’t be enough since his aura specifically is boosted, not any spells. Hegar has a fire mage that is higher level than Rain. It wouldn’t make sense for Rain to have a more powerful spell. The fire mage has a class and metamagic optimized for fire, so rain choosing a spell and it having a more powerful effect would be nonsense. (I guess)

Ziggy

Yes Rain could, and it would be the most useless spell against practically everyone. Let's say Rain went with firebolt. That's 6-8 base damage, so goes up to 70ish at level 10. That never increases cause he has no element specific metamagic, nor specialization, nor class bonus, and has minimum Focus. AND he probably wouldn't have access to any higher-level spells in that tree as he wouldn't meet the requirements. You already see monsters with 25 resistance at whatever level stumpers are. As soon as they get 80 resistance to heat, that firebolt spell doesn't even hurt them. Sure he could cast it nonstop. It just wouldn't do a damn thing. At best it would be good for overloading an armor's mana absorption. But it would be extremely slow, and wouldn't work against even half-decent armor. It would only work on the weakest of the weak, and be way less efficient and powerful than his auras already are.

Anonymous

So the big question, to delve with the crimson swords or not. The good is that together they can probably kill a blue that will let Rain raise his cap. Otherwise they probably need another blue that lets other catch up first. The bad is that not only are they unprofessional but Hagar also consider a stab in the back to be a valid strategy for dealing with rivals.

Anonymous

Them joining Ascension is also a possibility. I think SS put some particular focus on the 'pristine white cloaks while mining' scene to highlight the general housekeeping benefits Rain provides that we've come to take for granted in his presence. Hopefully they don't though, cuz I'm hoping for a bloodbath when they kill someone in their sleep and realize our resident madlad MC has all of his subordinates keyed into a 24/7 detection macro.

Anonymous

Not to mention he would have to take off his armour to use it. Like when the ice spell from the accolade went all wonky when he tried to use it.

Anonymous

I think Hegar and Anton both fail the self-righteous "asshole test" Rain has. Hegar is cruel to everyone and broke Stint's leg. Anton went out of his way to step on the dying monsters leg and was ready to kill Rain. Only Brovose was laid back and even suggested working with Rain. But in the short term, Ameliah will keep them in check and it is mutually advantageous to team up. I don't see anyone but Brovose really joining.

Ziggy

Forgot to mention, you were right. I later reread a chapter or two before this and saw them explicitly discuss chess aloud after they arrived in Vestvall; demonstrating it pretty clearly that I was incorrect.
