Not first,

Michael Hughes

First bonus chapter since the 18th. Very happy to see this today.

Ziggy

Haven't read yet but g'damn I enjoy the random email notification that there's a new, unexpected chapter.

Anonymous

First time I'm here before the first page is filled...

Thransk

I like the break up of the chapter. Even if nothing epic is happening things are starting to heat up. Looking forward to a pay off !

Rheklr

Great chapter! Newest theory: the way to break the level cap is to get an obscene amount of XP at once, whilst also being over a total XP threshold.

Bloodorange17

I really enjoyed this chapter

Findell

So he will have to make an interface for accolades like his inventory for items?

Anton Lupanov

Nice to know that Lavarro offed Westbridge. Less nice is that she apparently destroyed half the city in the process. Also, with Warden being super-mentalist, I suspect that the Watch's ubiquitous truth-telling is actually her skill that she distributes to the whole organization. Also also, the damage limit is mentioned again, this time with a mention of consequences. Sounds very suspicious, especially for mentalist whose damage shouldn't affect material world at all.

Sanairb

So i'm having a harder time really understanding how all the tolerances and extra stats actually tie in to the system, other than just as a set of numbers in a stat block. Would it be fair to imagine the soul as a container that holds all the power that his stats usually give him? So when you try to add extra stats through his ring, you are straining how much his soul container can hold? Then it starts to hurt like an upset stomach when you eat too much. But you can train your soul to hold more by stretching it a little more each time until it gets used to the new amount. So you arn't exactly getting more powerful by stretching out your soul, since you only produce the same amount of power it was holding originally, but you are slowly stretching out the containers ability to hold more power from outside sources? ...... Please correct me where im wrong.

Atlas Dwarf

I wonder who the new Westbridge guy is. The DKE were already scraping the bottom of the barrel with Velika so maybe this is the person that was supposed to replace her after pissing everyone off.

Atlas Dwarf

That seems plausible. That surge from Essence Well didn't increase his Total Experience either so you'd expect that power to go somewhere.

Jeremy Humphrey

I am just waiting for him to pump so much essence well into a monster it becomes an essence monster. Or explodes. If I am reading the foreshadowing correctly. If he can make his own essence monsters that will be great for his advancement (in that it is a somewhat easy method for him to do so.) If he blows up a low level monster with over saturation of mana. More power to him.

Michael Hughes

Excellent chapter today. Making the accolades unknown was a nice bit. I think that he will have to claim them by keeping up the mana infusion or make an interface to allow him to claim them like he did with his armor before learning mana manipulation. Since he keeps making more crystal slimes I think they will merge after dozer wakes up or kill them for the xp. If dozer levels enough it may let Rain farm crowns so that he can make more rings eventually. The essence soul strain is the key to leveling yourself. The volcano might have done the same because it was noted that he leveled alone. It is good to see him taking steps to leave now that he is physically recovered. Can't help but wonder how many accolades he will find on the corpses still in the rubble. Another way to access them is to go back into the dungeon and break the core while holding onto all of the accolades to maybe unlock them all. He would have to be able to leave the city though because if he was stuck he would be killed for removing the awakening potential for everyone else. Nice to see what happened outside the barrier but I don't remember lavarro destroying a town. I am sure it will be explained later. See you Sunday SS.

Jerzylo

So now Fel Sadanis is truly isolated. Looks like Rain has to be the one to open the barrier. I feel like the accolades shouldn't be too difficult to claim.

Atlas Dwarf

With the way those Accolades soaked up mana it sounds like they would be great for maxing Mana Manipulation. Wonder if they'll form a new dungeon or bind to him with enough mana to activate them. Also hopefully Rain won't go in and stay in the Fells Dungeon for long given that he wouldn't contribute to the barrier while he's in there.

Anton Lupanov

Last time we have seen Lavarro, she was readying herself for the fight with Citizen Westbridge. Now Westbridge is dead, his city is thrashed and the Guild disavows Lavarro's actions. The fight itself was off-screen.

Mike G.

Rain's path to be the new shield master is now clear :)

His Dad

Much improved over the last 2

Klever Kilvanya

Enjoyed this more then the last chapters, also finally calling the idiots game and leaving, they get nothing but bad shit from this move now. Also your patreon is now telling me you have 96 more posts if I up the pledge? The pledge descriptions don't jive with that...

Empty Shelf

Oof, this was a big one. Rain has to deal with the dead, and a tactical strike of world-building right in the middle. That "conversation" was epic, and I like the idea that at high enough levels one can bend, or even break, the rules of the world, albeit at a cost. Also, Westbridge is dead, which is big news. That opens up a lot of possibilities... The biggest thing is that Rain is now able to move around. I'm hopeful that means his isolation ends soon and we can see how everyone deals with the fallout of what we learned this chapter.

Imp

I don't like Mel being dead. I vote for resurrection auras, or going necromancer. Jokes aside, we've officially killed off everyone I like inside Fel Sandaris, except the merchant and his daughter. Rain is complaining about the lack of tools... and there's an entire room of magical items now. There has to be something he can adapt that would be better than bare hands.

SenescentSoul

Might be a glitch. There are differences between the tiers as far as posts are concerned.

Pyrefiend

Following the EXP formula, the total EXP to reach level 25 for his class would have been 373,493 if he hadn't capped, and he just reached 374,832 total EXP. Could be a coincidence, but maybe this is why he felt weird when he got that last burst of EXP.

Anonymous

The "soul" contains the power provided by the system Adding "more power" via things like the ring stretches the container out. There is a limit to how far the container can usefully stretch, both individually per stat and in total. With Training and Effort, both those limits can increase, as we have seen with rain. We do not yet know if there is a hard cap (say lvl x 10 total, rain is currently at 139).

Garrett

Honestly, I think his armor is more than enough to level Mana Manipulation. He still hasn't fully charged it, he's just been prioritizing other things.

Gabriel

I'm kinda sad to see Westbridge gone, he was an interesting character that could have shown the world in an interesting light.

Daoist

Oh that's a nice idea, he should definitely experiment on those untamed crystal slimes

jam

I wonder if this means he can raise his level cap by earning like 10x levelup exp in a single update screen? It would almost make sense, except low levelcap people could accidently grind that out on slimes in a day. Maybe this is just the type of soul strain you need to train to bully your levelcap up? This chapter raised and answered a lot of questions

payforthat

Good idea, but don't think it works. He would of hit that xp point earlier, not from skill up dialog when he felt weird. As he was capped out on xp when he got the dialog so no gain in general xp.

tibbish

Something like that was hypothesized by others but I think it won't work like that given the soulstrain he was experiencing. It seemed physically dangerous. My WAG is that he'll either figure out how to make his own blues to kill for easier skill cap raising OR he'll uncover some sort of secret with his continued poking around the edges of the system. Could also be that his efforts do nothing for now but if he does end up raising his level cap than he'll automatically level up with all the extra XP he is getting. Far too little info to be sure about anything yet so all we can do is speculate. With Westbridge being dead I think Rain will almost HAVE to level up in some manner since otherwise he is just trapped in Sadanis and the story ends. I don't think the attackers are doing anything to the shield really and they can't hide out there forever or they'll get attacked in turn too. We'll see.

So... I have a question about the narrator. In the part where we follow Halgrave, his instinctual fear of the warden is described as his “lizard brain” screaming at him. Is it a term Halgrave knows or does the narrator use terms Halgrave is unfamiliar with? I might just be overthinking it.

Anonymous

This isn't a question. Also, if I'm guessing your question correctly, the most-instinct based, oldest part of the brain is commonly referred to as the lizard brain because it, in theory, hasn't changed much since we were. The concept has at least partially been debunked, I think. I'm not a neuroscientist or evolutionary biologist.

“the cracks that had been left in the fabric of reality were warning enough. They had taken years to heal. Not easily was the damage limit broken, and not without cost” Not sure what ‘cracks in reality’ would look like but if the warden and Fetch were able to break the damage limit. Wouldn’t the maajistral have easily done this during every skirmish in their ‘civil war’ considering they would probably have many people stronger than the Warden and Fetch?

And Then There Was None

I'm sad we didn't get to see the fight that killed Westbridge...

Azareck

Those slimes must be evolving because going to sleep for that long just to level up would make no sense. Imagine a monster leveling up in the middle of a fight and suddenly getting tired.

Atlas Dwarf

Well each slime absorbed 100 mana exactly and the experience between level 1 and 2 is 100. It'll be interesting to see what exactly the slimes do with that mana especially when one has Tel and the other doesn't.

wanderer117

There aren't a lot of maajistral ruins, they may have fallen into the cracks in reality.

Andrew

Thank you!

and now we wait for the next one

Help, I think I missed a chapter, when did llaravo do her thing? Last I read she was looking at the barrier?

tibbish

The fight happened 'off camera'. There was a cliffhanger where it shows her heading towards Westridge's city to have it out with him several chapters back.

Thenais

and now we wait :p

Michael Hughes

I guess skill experience does not contribute to total experience. In Tomb Rain is at the experience cap because he did not unlock any more skill trees when he enters essence meditation. He accrues more than 170k general mana use experience and 52k+ for aura compression skill resulting in 2 skill rank ups for the first time since buried bring that skill up to 8. With compression at 8 and mana manipulation at 7 only those skills are below the level 10 skill cap. The total experience value between fracture and tomb is the same. I would use essence meditation and aura compression to increase my mana regen and then keep mana manipulation on all night in order to fill up either the armor and finally repair the last joint or one of the accolades if the armor stats block out too much mana for you to generate sufficient skill experience. Right now he is keeping his stats at the tolerance cap which raises synchronization instead of tolerance or max point totals for the ring. is it possible to loose synchronization if you improve tolerance rapidly or are you locked in at 100% because I have never seen clarity or focus go down? 5 more hours.

Daoist

Yea skill exp is it's own thing, it won't help raise level, can't be used for unlocks, it can only raise the related skill rank, nothing more. About using essence meditation and aura compression to increase mana regen, that won't work because Essence Well can't go above 100% efficiency, meaning at best he won't lose mana. Winter aura is his best way to improve regen so far. I don't think that he can lose sync the way you describe, from what I remember it's more related to the state of his body (or brain for mental stats) so it would only get lower over time if he neglected that aspect (like losing muscle due to inactivity).
