Timed myself writing this one.

3.5 hours writing the first draft.

3.5 hours editing that mess into something readable.

Awesome chapter. I liked the new character though she basically seems like a more stuck up, girl version of Val; short-temper, speaks without thinking, bit of a superiority complex. Only difference she has the influence and power to back it up.

I was worried for a minute there that she would be the "villain what makes trouble just because". I can definitely see her having a functional, if unstable, relationship with the group. Rain is nearly out of character progression opportunity, so it must be time for plot progression! I really want more levels though.

So I was wondering... is it possible for rain to kill/incapacitate someone pretty quickly by going into a short trance and transfering all his mana into them? Hurt them with soul strain. I remember it being mentioned once that if his auras got too strong instead of helping an army he would kill them. I assume transfer of mana is ignored by armour as well?

It's possible I guess from what we've learned about soulstrain but it wouldn't work on everyone, odds are good that people of a higher level or those who already have a very large manapool would be less affected. Also suppose they already had full mana? I don't think essence well would give overmana. For myself I'm not sold on weaponizing soulstrain as a common ability, I think he's better off going for conventionallity.

4.5, good chapter. Got some background. Felt much smoother than the last couple. I would expect a conversation about nobles after this, at least that seeems like where things are leading with that last line.

Nice we got a new chapter pretty quick and there was action too! I doubt information will be forthcoming soon, we still haven't found out what Val's class is called after all, but I'd love to know more about our nobel! Seems to be the product of a long family line slowly building their power and collecting their accolades, though I wouldn't be surprised to find that she's actually not that high lvl, rather her personal power probably steems from her inherited accolades and probably a class and skills picked to synergize with them. Still, her power level seems insane, we know from Rain that running fast and controlling what you're doing isn't easy. Running faster than the speed of sound seems silly and overpowered. It's hinted that she's trading combat potential for speed but just her speed alone would let her kill almost any bronze plate we've ever heard of. It's also nice to see the world get bigger! For the first 30 chapters or so we saw the city and the adventurers guild through rains experiences and it seemed like the average adventurer was fairly unspectacular like Hegar or Jamus, we'd heard of Lavarro and the blue bastard(can't remember his name) but we hadn't really seen their power, the first taste of strong adventurer we got was when Ameliah cut loose. I was starting to think that lvl 18 Rain in his new armor would be a big fish in a small pond when they returned to the city but this gives me hope that there is still plenty of road yet to travel. It's nice to see the story progessing and with the foreshadowed rank shift Rain might get an operatunity to lvl up soon but I honestly think it'll take a while. Still, average chapter length seems to be going up and maybe we'll get there sooner than I'd think, no presure though Senescentsoul :P

I hate the new character. She could become interesting in the future, but she's a disgusting terror as she is now. I thought the pacing in the chapter was really weird. There wasn't any balance, it was just kinda full-tilt the whole way through. That might have been on purpose with the new PoV though.

I think as a throw away protag she is fine. But yeah she can't get too much 'screen time' because there is no way she'll actually be able to hold a conversation for long without killing someone. edit: and b someone I mean Rain or one his team. As Ameilia notes the new char is one of the bad ones At least not believeably.

I actually like the new character and how she is portrayed. Noble+super powers would create someone fairly entitled. She isn’t crazy murder hostile, but has a reasonable goal, getting a good weapon made. I’m regards to power, it is good to see that hundreds of years have led to very powerful builds or better optimizations.

i wonder if people mean they hate the character's personality (as if they were another character in the story who has an opinion about the person) or the character itself (as a reader from outside the story, how the character is portrayed) when they say that they dislike/hate the new character

She seems like a handful, I think it's a new experience for her for someone to say no. Hopefully things won't be tragic for Tallheart and maybe this could get him to lead a more normal life down the road

I just don't buy, Carten is this stupid... Val ok, he is allways too cocky for his own good, but Carten? He should know when he meets someone that outclasses him.

Yeah Carten has been on my shit list since how he acted in the dungeon. Nearly got Rain killed while screwing around on the job in the dungeon + now he is mouthing off to someone clearly stronger than him because he thinks Amelia will save him from his own stupidity. Not something who is good or sensible will do at all. And he isn't a some kid or someone fresh out the inter-dimensional portal with no inkling of the dangers involved either. Honestly hoping that Rain ditches Val and Carten and the rest of the group go off and do stuff elsewhere.

That noble doesn't clearly care about anyone. She very much just wants him to do a job and then she could care less about him again. Realistically because of that + the king's edict against Cervidians Tallheart probably has no hope of a normal life in that kingdom or the surrounding ones. He probably has to go real far away for a hope at a normal life.

Love your story, I binged it in a few days. Please just let Rain get his dang calculator, I don't enjoy the parts where he is struggling to do math and fill out tables for several pages. Or better yet, allow him to finagle it to just get his screen to immediately figure out the most efficient combo of skills for whatever he wants. He hasn't seen tier 3 of offensive auras yet right? The force one seems awesome, and I'm sure there is an arcane one which is lightning which would be badass, but since he's a wuss that doesn't want to kill people he should find an aura that lets him restrain/paralyze/knock out enemies without killing them. Maybe mental aura attack? That way he could unleash it and immediately knock out a whole bunch of enemies with blood coming out of their ears, nose, and eyes, and look terrifying even while he's actually being too scared to kill them. Also no physical collateral damage. The more I think of it, the more I want him to get a mental offensive aura.

I've felt so far that the math in general was simply another part of the immersive experience, seeing what Rain was dealing with. Also, personally not hoping for a *magical calculator* that fixes all the *maths* but considering that he can influence his "menu" and literally "write" stuff there, maybe he can actually program something there, but that seems to be the opposite of what you're asking for since that would require actual math and work to get done. On a similar note I felt that the blacklist for IFF felt weird, as if it was solely there *for our sake* as the readers, and didn't feel right. Though I did like the idea of influencing his menu *stuff*, just not the way it was brought about through the blacklist/whitelist, was more hoping for IFF to start off as an intuitive skill similar to channel mastery. Probably just me being nitpicky considering it seems to be usable both intuitively and through the list.. but it didn't feel right to me how it started off.
