Fairy Tail's main appeal is the guild and how all the members interact. There may be flaws in the storytelling, but it's a load of fun. I like that when everyone is covering their ears, preparing for Lullaby to blast death magic at them, Bob and Goldmine are just stood there smiling like nothing's wrong. Episode nine is filler, so you don't need to watch it unless you're interested in non-canonical implied cannibalism.
