Hello everyone and thank you so much for being here!

Not only does your support make my mods possible, it is also of great meaning to me. Thank you.

Today, and as promised earlier in the month, I am bringing to you some more detail regarding the plans and ongoing development for the "Law And Disorder" mod project.

******************************************************************

NOTE: I am deliberately staying away from most common terms used in real life for the crimes that this mod covers, EXCEPT when the game itself uses a specific term. When possible, I am making up terms or using less common terms. I don’t want to equate the features of this mod to the real life stuff, and this mod is not either any sort of attempt at making a representation thereof.

DISCLAIMER: This is for a GAME that is a life simulation, has a "Criminal" career, etc. I do NOT approve of any of this in real life, nor am I advertising it. Respect the law, respect others, do not cause harm! :)

-------------- ‘MISDEEDS’ --------------

- Some EA interactions count as misdeeds (hacking, for example)

- There are also some misdeeds that come with the mod because in EA they exist but limited to a certain trait or magic ability. Those appear in a dedicated pie menu (“Misdeeds”)

- “Pyrocy”:

- Sims can start fires (that doesn’t mean they should!)
- considered a capital misdeed
- Starting fires with spells from “Realm of Magic” counts as well

- “Fistfighting”(?):

-         starting a fight counts as violence. The initiator of the fight is considered at fault

-         In Sims, no physical fight is one-sided - both Sims are fighting each other - and as often as not, the Sim who started the fight is the one who loses it. This label does not include or represent cases of physical abuse of real life. It is adapted to and only meant to represent the fights that we have in the Sims game.

-         Exceptions might be made for fights between vampires or between werewolves.

-         violence is considered a capital misdeed.

- “Racketeering”:

-         the EA blackmail interactions count for this

-         considered a noncapital misdeed

- “Bribing”:

-          the EA bribe interactions count for this

-         considered a noncapital misdeed

- “Parental Negligence”:

-         Upon losing a baby to social services, a judgment may be requested.

-         (PLAN: also, a sim can report another. This causes a visit. If during the visit, the children's needs are not met, a judgment may be requested.)

  • capital misdeed

- “Defacement”:

-         some pranks count for this, sabotage and werewolf rampage as well

-         is considered a noncapital misdeed

- “Hacking”:

-         applies to the EA hacking interactions

-         is considered a noncapital misdeed

- Defamation / slander --> " "(?):

  • not started yet

  • noncapital misdeed

-Intimidation / insults --> " "(?):

  • not started yet

  • noncapital misdeed or capital? What do you suggest?

- ”Hexing”:

-         freezing another Sim, turning them green, forcing them to clean dishes via magic and other “realm of magic” spells count for this

-         this is considered a capital misdeed

- Failure to pay debts or loans --> “Dodging”:

  • not started yet

  • noncapital misdeed

- “Naturing”(?):

-         the game usually paints ndity in a rather lighthearted light, so this follows a similar approach. The existing game reactions to random ndity remain, but what is added is that other Sims might lodge legal complaints about it

-         considered a noncapital misdeed

- “Swiping”:

- sims can steal items at any time (that doesn’t mean they should!)

- theft is considered a noncapital misdeed

- “swiping” from the kleptomaniacs trait also counts for this

- Trespassing --> “ ” (?):

-         PLAN: Sims can place a “no trespassing” sign on their property, and then put complaints on other Sims (friends are fine) who do seem to come by uninvited

-         considered a noncapital misdeed

----------- WHAT ABOUT THE MORE SERIOUS STUFF? ---------------------

These elements I am not completely sure yet that I would include (because I'm not quite comfortable with all of it) - if I do, it will be as an optional add on. Thoughts?

- "Reapering": note that this would be completely non graphic, and sim-like as much as possible

- "Botheration": note that this would NOT include the most creepy or disturbing behavior, going no further than insistant talking

------------------- REALLY CAUGHT OR NOT? ---------------------

Being caught

- If catching a misdeed, witnesses or victims might decide to report.

- If they do, and the misdeed counts as "noncapital", the sim who committed the misdeed will have 24 hours to present themselves to the authorities to deal with the complaint.

If reported for a capital misdeed, authorities will appear (PLAN).

- Whether or not a witness or victim decides to report shall depend on their own traits, the misdeed and the relationship existing between these Sims.

Judgment

The judgment systems are different depending on whether the misdeed is considered capital or noncapital.

  • -         In the case of a noncapital misdeed, the guilty Sim can try to bribe (following the spirit of the game itself which has various bribe interactions) or otherwise convince the reporting Sim to remove their complaint. They can also decide to admit fault or deny the complaint.

  • -         In the case of a capital misdeed, the guilty Sim can try to bribe the judge (following the spirit of the game itself which has various bribe interactions), hire a lawyer, and choose plea type.

Judgments are a rabbit hole. Results depend on previous sentences, reputation, actions taken (plea, representation) and a bit of chance.

------------ RECORDS ---------------

-         There is a window to see complaints currently pending against a Sim

-         there is a window to see a Sim’s history of misdeeds from their perspective - this is not their legal record, but the memory of what they’ve done and what is happened. Perhaps they did something five times without getting seen, perhaps they were seen twice but not reported, or perhaps they were reported every single time - depending on that, not everything might appear in their official legal record, but it does all appear in their personal memory record.

-         there is a window that is the Sim’s official legal misdeed record

                     [NO IMAGE FOR NOW]

------------- CONSEQUENCES / SENTENCES ---------------

I am deliberately NOT using the exact real life terms whenever possible. I don’t want to equate the features of this mod to the real life stuff, and this mod is not either any sort of attempt at making a representation thereof.

Sentences:

  • - fines: a Sim has 24 hours to pay their fines. If they don’t, their belongings will be repossessed.

  • - mandatory distance order: a Sim is forbidden to interact with another Sim.

    • They can still try to either insult that Sim or get them to drop the order - at the risk of worsening their sentence as that is UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR!

  • - home lock up time: a Sim is forbidden to leave their house. If they do and get reported, their sentence can be made worse.

  • - facility lock up time (short-term and long-term): a Sim is in jail, and unavailable to be played.

                         [NO IMAGE FOR NOW]

  • - public service work: unpaid rabbit hole work

  • - hat of shame: a Sim is forced to wear a hat of shame for the duration of their sentence. Other Sims react to them, knowing the meaning of said hat. The hat is a retexture of the bag from Eco Lifestyle currently. Might change later.

Side consequences possible:

  • - loss of job / obstacles to getting new jobs

  • - loss of significant other

  • - ban from adoption

  • - loss of custody

---------------- IN CONCLUSION, & CURRENT STATE ----------------

This mod project is large and complex both. It should therefore not be too surprising that it still needs quite a bit of work. While individual pieces keep growing as I go, most are not quite finished yet, and various connections between things are also still missing. It's one step at a time!

Progress is ongoing and this project is the main focus currently :)

Thoughts & feedback welcome! :)

This looks great! I like how you're working on keeping things "Sim-ish."

Keri Ramsey

What about "Reaper Interference" or "Attempted Reaper Interference" with a description along the lines of "Only the Reaper can decide when it's a sim's time to depart the mortal world. [sim name] has been accused of interfering (or "attempting to interfere") with the Reaper's affairs. Now [sim name] must answer to the Reaper." And the reaper would spawn and the guilty sim could plead their case (maybe certain traits could influence via a percentage whether the reaper will reap that sim or show mercy, with some room for a random 100% success thrown in to keep things interesting for the really bad sims, and higher percentages for failure if the charge is actual interference vs attempted interference). Reaper interference could be actions that actually cause a sim to meet the reaper-- and attempted reaper interference could include things like vampires drinking too deeply, sim ray freezing, any magic spell or potion (including science serums and herbalism potions) that causes extreme effects like freezing, burning, starving, etc, serving bad pufferfish, any of the other game mechanics that could (or would IRL) cause a sim to become a ghost that could be attributed to another sim's actions. Locking another sim in a room on your property until they teleport out due to low motives, for example, is a clear "attempt" to lure the reaper). Perhaps you could even (if its possible and you'd actually want to) make it so that there's a % chance the interactions that would fall under "attempted" can actually cause the targeted sim to meet the reaper (similar to how certain extreme emotions can cause a sim to meet the reaper, but not always.) And then you could either have the reaper's judgment be absolute (either the sim is taken by the reaper, or completely cleared of all charges) or, the reaper could just be the determination of whether the sim gets the ultimate punishment (being taken) or tried and punished by the court like any other crime. Could be a lighthearted way to have the de*th penalty without going too far into adult mod territory. I do not personally care for the more extreme adult mods, but I would really enjoy this sort of gameplay which feels in keeping with the silly tone of the game while adding a level of realism that keeps gameplay fresh. (A mod that adds intoxication effects in a significantly more simplified and silly/lighthearted way than basemental's amazingly detailed and complex mods is forever on my wishlist, and if you ever got inspired to make such a mod, it would pair very nicely with this mod, I think. Too many nectars or bar juices could make a sim more likely to engage in autonomous recklessness and shenanigans lol. Selling low quality nectars and fizzes could be an offense--imbibing said nectars and fizzes could amplify negative effects and after-effects) I thorougly digress, lol. Back to THIS mod, I think it would also be cool if teens (and maybe children but only for the most destructive/rebellious actions) had a "Junior Court" with lighter penalties, and age-appropriate consequences---like, community service "chores" that you could expect to see a kid or teen complete, along with flavor text that reflects their remorse (or lack thereof if they're on a rougher path). Moodlets for family members too--parents could be disappointed, or angry, or afraid for their future. Siblings might have similar reactions, or even be impressed by the rebellion. Criminally minded parents could be impressed by their budding little crime-lords, or angry they were reckless enough to get caught. Family member reactions could trigger moodlets for the guilty sim as well-- sad that they've disappointed their parents, angry that their parents are angry. etc. adeepindigo has a delinquent teens mod that could be nicely incorporated with this. I also think it would be cool if rich sim parents could attempt to buy their kids' way out of trouble. The family reactions/responses to reactions could be applied to adult sims who are being subjected to the justice system too, just obviously with different emotions/text. A child or teen whose parent has broken the law is certainly going to have some feelings about it. Sorry for the long-winded comment, I am autistic, lol.

I can't wait for this mod!! Thank you so much for making this.

a lot of us use extreme violence- could that count towards reaping so our violent sims can actually face punishment for the deadly or non deadly actions from that mod?

Any updates on this? :o!

Can't wait !! Excited this mod is about be super funny in game 😆

Lumpinou, I’m not trying to rush you or your mods. But could we get an update on this one please 🙏🏾 ❤️

lumpinou

Hi, As I had announced right before the patch, it had to take all precedence. I have spent the past weeks working basically nonstop on the damage caused by the patch and pack. I am not done fully connecting necessary integrations with it. When I am ready to share updates about L&D I will. I am more impatient for it to be done than anyone else on earth aha, with how long it's been hanging over my head. The time is not now however :)

Your new mod looks very impressive (and complex) so far! Just thinking out loud here: graffiti in public spaces (as a vandalism misdeed); an appeal option (either after judgment has been passed but Sim believes the decision was wrong or just feels lucky and wants to test the odds); neighborhood crime statistics (could loop into NAPs); negative reactions from neighbors as consequence; distinct visible electronic monitoring device (sim-lish style) if on parole/released early from facility lock-up. If including teens (now or later), then parental interventions could include grounding, setting curfews, or enrolment in behavior improvement programs. More specific (= more work): For celebrities (and normal sims): If an annoyance meter (fills up based on interactions with fans/paparazzi or that specific sim) reaches a certain level, they can take legal action or add increased protection (security cameras for celebs). I am excited to see what you will come up with.
