Hey all and happy Monday! Today I’m excited to share an update to my Compendium of Martial Archetypes & Fighting Styles for the Fighter class as it is presented in the Player’s Handbook.

I’ve always felt that there was a ton of unexplored non-magical potential with Fighter subclasses (as evidenced by my Alternate Fighter Class) left on the table, and I’ve tried to explore some of those themes with the subclasses here!

MARTIAL ARCHETYPES

Included here are Twelve new Archetypes for the Fighter - some are fairly standard fantasies, while others are a little more out-there!

Lead your allies as a Commander, fight for your deity as a Crusader, hunt your quarry as a Drifter, shield your allies as a Guardian, adapt to any challenge as a Guerrilla, master ranged weapons as a Marksman, hone your body into a deadly weapon as a Marital Artist, train a faithful companion as a Master of Hounds, support allies with potent Rations as a Quartermaster, master the blade as a Swordsage, invent and improve your arsenal as a Tinker Knight, or wield eldritch power as a Witch Knight.

Patrons also get access to a thirteenth exclusive Martial Archetype - the Drakesworn - wielders of draconic might!

FIGHTING STYLES

Like the Fighter’s subclasses, I also feel that the Fighting Styles included in the Player’s Handbook (and to a certain degree those in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything) leave a lot to be desired. The Fourteen Fighting Styles included here are concepts that either reinforce a strong theme for warriors, or are iconic themes that I don’t feel are strong enough to warrant an entire subclass.

Enjoy!

I'm probably going to suggest one of these to one of my players. Thinking martial artist but not sure yet
