Hey all, been play-testing my Alternate Artificer a bit more through Dungeon of the Mad Mage and just hit 13th level. I've incorporated some updates to the class, the biggest of which is fewer total Infusions at any one time. Most of this update is a cleanup of formatting and making the document itself look nicer.

I'll probably be updating the Alternate Artificer: Expanded over the next week or so. Keep an eye out for the new subclasses from by base Artificer compendium!

Change Log v2.1.0

  • General // Many grammar and formatting updates.
  • Tools // Mentions of “tinker’s tools or another set of artisan’s tools with which you are proficient” has been replaced with “set tools with which you are proficient”.
  • Infusions // Reduced the number of Infusions you get as you gain levels. Maxes out with 8 total Infusions at 20th level (down from 10 at 20th level).
  • Subclasses renamed to Specializations
  • Alchemist // Homunculus Servant // Now acts during your turn.
  • Alchemist // Alchemical Elixir Infusions // Clarified how these work.
  • Battle Smith // Steel Defender /. Now acts during your turn.
  • Battle Smith // Steel Defender Stat Block // Intelligence bonus fixed.
  • Battle Smith // Adjustable Improvements // “New” feature that saves me from repeating the same line in each of the Specialization features.
  • Wandslinger // Master Wandslinger // Reworked this feature.
  • Infusions // Light Blade // This no longer produces true sunlight or deals extra damage to undead creatures (go get a Sunblade).
  • Infusions // Repulsion Shield // Now gives a bonus to AC (not attack/damage)
  • Infusions // Masterwork Homunculus // Clarified how this works.
  • Infusions // Added the Mind Sharpener and Helm of Awareness

Alternate Artificer by laserllama

A graying gnome hunched over his workbench, carefully adjusting the clockwork mechanism that would power his creation. Before him laid an automaton of intricate iron gears within a suit of plate armor, built to resemble a large gnome. As the tiny inventor affixed his signature mithril mustache to the face plate, a jolt of electric-blue magic flashed from the automaton.

tfw no tiny hut. Good update though, doesn't really reduce the overall power of the class, and cleans up a lot of stuff. The Alchemical Infusions description mentions "Create Greater Elixir" while mentioning the Grease and Sleep spells, which are in "Create Minor Elixir". A very minor error.

would love to see the artificer expanded subclasses converted to the alternate artificer framework!

Yeah, it was a little ridiculous at higher levels. You still end up with more active Infusions then the official artificer.

Good catch on the Elixirs, I'll have to fix that. Is tiny hut on the official artificer spell list?

I just started working on them today, I forgot how long it's been since I've updated the expanded doc.

No, but I wish it was, because it just makes perfect sense for Artificers haha. Artificers can create black holes and pocket dimensions but they can't make a dome!

I’ll make a note to review the spell list and see if I can fit tiny hut in there! Rope trick is on there, so tiny hut does fit.
