Here it is! I've become sort of consumed by this class over the past week or two, so I'm posting this a little earlier then I normally would. This is a rough first draft (with some light proofreading), so I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks!

I know this is a very popular homebrew class, so if you are familiar with other popular version of this archetype, I welcome any comparisons/criticisms you may have.

Class Features: Standard half-caster stuff. No heavy armor.

Arcane Armory: Summon your weapon (and eventually armor and shield)

Spellsight: Sense the magic in the world (or people) around you.

Fighting Style: You get the basics, almost all offensive melee options here.

Spellcasting: Half-caster, Intelligence-based, Spells Known.

Spellstrike: Your main ability. Imbue certain spells into your weapons!

Esoteric Order: Your subclass. I've included three options here.

ASI/Extra Attack: Standard issue half-caster stuff.

Aegis: The anti-smite. Reduce damage from incoming spells and spend spell slots to possibly dispel them.

Spellsunder: Dispel magic - the attack!

Arcane Strikes: A little bit of Paladin combined with some Order of Scribes Wizard.

Greater Aegis: Regain spell slots when you dispel - risk it all!

Greater Spellsunder: Disintegrate - the attack!

---

Order of the Arcanist: For those that want to lean into spellcasting.

Order of the Sentinel: Heavy armor, arcane tank. Makes a great defender.

Order of the Spellbreaker: You hunt spellcasters, really really well.

The Magus Class by laserllama

As the cloaked swordsman made his way through the bustling marketplace his eyes flashed green for a moment. He could see the unmistakable aura of arcane magic surrounding the unassuming dwarf pretending to shop for wares. The warrior had found his target.

I've been so excited for the full release of this class! It's just in time for our next game's session 0 next week. So hopefully I'll be able to play test this thoroughly

In the description of Spellstrike, it mentions the spell can't require concentration, but both banishment and polymorph are marked as compatible with Spellstrike on the spell list (as well as a couple other concentration spells). Otherwise looking great!

Now that I look at the whole class, I think Spellstrike could apply spells that require concentration without being broken. The Magus would just need to concentrate on them once they are applied. What do you think?

So would I be able to mark a weapon with the thrown property as part of my armory, throw it and then use my bonus action to resummon it to throw again next round?

laserllama

Correct! The Artificer has an Infusion that does something similar and I loved using it on my character.

Yeah, I didn't notice that clause on my first read through and was sad when I read it as there was some cool combos with the concentration spells. I agree that they should be fine as long as the Magus concentrates on the spell after it applies.

Still haven't been able to playtest yet (although hopefully soon), but potentially concerned about the power of cantrips and spell strike. You can get cantrips as magus spells through a fighting style or subclass. While it takes your bonus action, from what I can tell fire bolt is a valid spellstrike spell. Which means you can for free do an extra 1d10 extra damage per turn which seems higher then other classes that have similar features (horizon walker). And that damage scales with cantrips as normal. The fact that this bonus damage costs no resources but your bonus action seems very strong.

That’s a good catch. I should probably limit Spellstrike to magus spells of 1st level or higher
