Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of episode 4 of the final season of AoT!  Things just keep heating up!!!  Falco's working hard to make sure Gabi doesn't have to become a Titan, we get to meet Willy Tybur, there's a fun festival, and more!  I'm so curious to know more about the Tybur family.  This whole thing is starting to have a really Game of Thrones feel with all the different nations conferring!  It's fun to see more of the outside world as well.  And last but not least....that final scene....!!!!!!!!!!  I got scared as soon as I saw the entrance to the cellar lol!!!!  What will happen next?!  Can't wait to find out!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

The Tybur family lead Marley basically. When Theo says "If someone controlled this country from the shadows i'd tell them: its too late." He was directly speaking to Willy which is why Willy said that Theo truly doesnt hold back.

First comment I'm gonna make as I'm watching your reaction when you're talking about why Gabi and the others are shocked about the festival. Remember the Eldians live in an internment zone so it's understandable that they've never been to a festival before. For comparison I highly doubt there were ever any festivals in the Jewish Ghettos in Nazi Germany. But because Willy has decided to host this festival and his theatre play in the internment zone, inviting VIP's and government officials from all of the world into one of the internment zone where the Eldians live, suddenly the internment zone is filled with people from outside who've set up stalls selling foods and all sorts of stuff they'd never normally have in the internment zone. Hence Gabi's shock when she suddenly heard bands playing outside her house and then seeing all the festive stuff happening outside. When Falco shoved the ice cream in her mouth he said "try this" suggesting they've likely never had a luxury food such as ice cream before. Also that scene where the kids are checking the wallets which are empty they then turn to Reiner and give him puppy dog eyes and we then get that little compilation of them trying a bunch of different foods whilst Reiner pays for it all. You actually see Reiner's head drop slightly in each shot since he's spending more and more money and they're probably draining his wallet dry but then he looks at Gabi and the others looking happy and laughing which makes him smile as well. After all as we saw last episode, those kids were the only thing that stopped him from pulling the trigger. Such a wholesome moment which is pretty rare to get in Attack on Titan. But that scene with Reiner dragging Gabi away as she says it feels like something is about to change is super ominous. Really gives a calm before the storm type of feel. Love how they set the atmosphere there.

I get the impression that the whimsical music was meant to represent young love. Falco, doesn't just want to save Gabi; he is in love with her & everyone but Gabi, knows it. This is also to remind us, just as the festival does, that these are innocent children. That younger Reiner, & crew, were also innocent children & shouldn't be held fully responsible for their actions:)

yesterday I finally caught up with attack on titan via your reactions( I hadn't watched it for years, my first time watching it was when only season 1 was out and it was several years left until season 2) So I rewatched season 1 with your reactions and then saw the new seasons via your reactions (I haven't watched everything extra around it yet, just focused on the seasons so far) And oh boy I never expected all twists and turns and callbacks they would do. So some comments in regards to previous episodes: (when they said that their memory was changed 100 years ago I actually suspected the time they are depicted in might be wrong so I wasn't that surprised with it being a different time (to be fair my assumption of that was due to I thought the Omni directional gear seemed to advanced for their time period and my assumption was that someone had made it before they changed memories but that wasn't entirely correct) In regards to the choice that Levi did to revive Armin it also reminded me of the first time Eren choice to trust Levi's squad instead of turning into a Titan and that Levi speech about he doesn't know what is the right choice. And I think with Armin vs Erwin was the same situation. I feel like Levi is like you might not know what the right decision is but you make a decision and then you will find out if it was the right one or not. Oh and since I watched some other reactions for the first season 1 too one cool tidbit is that before we see the colossal titan for the first in season 1 it's preceded with the lightning that signifies a human changing into a Titan and then the colossal titan appears but when you watch it for the first time you don't know that but it's nice to see the puzzle pieces are there already. And last but not least Ymer is a name from Norse Mythology(Ymir in old norse) , actually in norse mythology creation myth it was from the body of that Giant that Earth and most on it was created. In norse mythology there is actually quite a bit of fighting Giants too. After reading the old norse mythology wiki article to refresh my memory it seems that Ymir in old norse means twin I don't know if that will hint about anything in this show but my thought is I'm curious if we will see any more norse mythology influences in Attack on Titan :)

kamenriderhime

Right! That's what I figured, they never saw anything like that living in the internment zone. So sad! Ahhh yes, I noticed that in editing, didn't quite put together that Reiner was paying for everything, that is so incredibly cute and sweet!!! So true that moments like that are rare on this show and presumably will become even more rare in the future. Definitely an eerie vibe with Gabi's words at the end!!!

kamenriderhime

Ahh okay that makes sense! So sad but true that they're innocent children, just as Reiner and his crew were....it's such a complicated situation, all the destruction they caused, yet they were clearly just kids!!! :O

kamenriderhime

I'm so glad you caught up and watched my reactions!!! Great points! Good for you for suspecting the time difference, it really took me by surprise! Ah yes, very true about the parallel between Levi's choice and Eren's choice when he was first the with squad. That's a great fun fact about the lightning in season 1 with the Colossal, makes so much sense now even though there was no context for it back then! I don't think I realized there was so much Norse mythology in AoT, that's awesome! Thanks for the info. It will be interesting to see if we get more!! Thanks again and hope you enjoy my future reactions!!

Sorry, I had to cancel my sub for the last few months - a new baby on the scene and all the fun that entails. I'm glad to get to see your full reactions again. I love the music this season, these scenes are in the manga but the little jazz bits add so much more character and levity! Lets us feel for the young warriors so much more.

kamenriderhime

Oh my gosh, congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!! No worries at all, I totally get it and glad you're back! The music is on point! Definitely gives a wholesome feel that just makes me anxious for what will happen to these poor kids I'm getting so attached to lol!!!

I will try to keep this comment short since people already mentioned some of the stuff I was interested in talking about and I loved the episode. I think the thing I love the most is more of the intrigue I love a lot about the show with Eren, Willy and the Tybur’s. Also of course Eren would use the last name Kruger as a cover not only because he saw the memories but because of the whole idea of paths, connections and history repeating itself. And he has been sending multiple letters most likely to other infiltrators makes you wonder what was in them. Willy is so interesting to me seeming to have good intentions and while I am cautiously optimistic about him being good but this show and certain things he said make me hesitant to trust him. He’s probably the Warhammer Titan but it might just be setting up a twist. One other thing is that another person who reacts to the show pointed out how messed up it is that an Eldian family rules Marley a country that oppresses Eldians. I like that we see more nicer Marleyens added more to the grey morality of things. Also the general guy trying to change things makes me more interested in him. On the relationship between Falco and Gabi is that I find it hilarious and fitting for her to be so oblivious, in many ways she’s like a female Eren from the beginning of the show. I love the voice acting in this episode particularly and something I found out which is awesome is that Falco’s voice actor also voices Tanjiro. It’s horrifying to think that treatment of Eldians is worse abroad when their already treated so horribly with casual racism and being exploited by Marley. I hate to imagine it but I’m pretty sure abroad what’s being done to Eldians is some Nazi Germany or worse stuff. Also talking about foreign countries I’m almost 100% sure that woman who helped Udo is from a similar area to where the Ackerman’s came from considering the Asian style clothes and country name. The whole scene with the grandfather is disturbing, dark and sad on a whole other level. He was a doctor but now he’s just living in what I assume is a psychiatric ward most of the time. The worst part is that Eren definitely knew it was his grandfather and wasn’t even really upset at all and just seems to have accepted what the world is like. The festival was so wholesome and heartwarming and I loved it even though it terrifies me. That’s because the entire time there was uplifting music and wholesome moments my reaction was just like everyone else’s this is too happy when will the other shoe drop. And then we have people foreshadowing and saying things like things are changing and something big is coming and I’m just internally and externally screaming especially with the end of the episode. Also when this show wants to do comedy it does it magnificently. Reiner needs a fucking break with everything he’s gone through in his life and then Eren is just chilling in the cellar and is just “Sup”. Also to me it seems like Eren has come to a decision and everyone should pray it’s not a destructive one because if not well… We might be getting a repeat of the 1st episode but in reverse. I haven’t said this before to you but for a long time I have had a theory that Eren would go down a dark and I hesitate to say villainous path which has only been reinforced by the end of season 3 and season 4. I am terrified that this is actually happening and I hope to God I’m wrong. I am not ready for the next episode and I’m really tense thinking about what might happen. This is 1 of my favorite ongoing series right now and even though I’m scared I can’t wait for the next episode. One final thing is that there’s a theory I heard from someone else who reacts to the show that will make me scream with excitement and interest if true. I’m not saying it here because if it actually happens I want you to be as shocked as possible and I will still be shocked if it’s true. If it happens I will tell you what the theory was. Great reaction as always. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

I don't know about those people saying Reiner is beyond redemption, can't agree with that. If what we are seeing now is not a redemption arc(the plot showing how Reiner was a victim and his environment, how he changed the person he was, how he regrets and suffers from the selfish choices he made in the past and how he is trying to save Gabi, a person he loves very much, from following the same cruel path as him), then I don't know what it is. Of course that for his victims, inside the story, it's not something simple forgive him, but this is different for us, the audience, who have the chance to get inside his character, get to know and understand him better.

I deleted my last comment because I thought I might be indicating something that happen in a certain way and I didn’t realize it, I hope you haven’t read it oidjiofjsdiof

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and clarifying!!!!!! True about Eren using the name Kruger, I get using it for meaningful reasons now that he knows the full history but actually didn't put that together about history repeating itself! Yeah, that's a good point that the Wilburs must be Eldian for them to have a Titan, and they rule a nation that is prejudiced, oppressive and exploitative of Eldians!!!! :O How is that possible?! Hadn't really connected that in my head. The general adds some gray layers like you said. So sad that Eldians are even more persecuted abroad!! :( I agree, the style of clothing the woman Udo bumped into looked like it came from an Eastern country. I remember them saying there were not many people of Asian descent left inside the walls, only Mikasa and her mom. Oh man, the scene with the grandpa was really sad for sure! I figured Eren was just trying to put on an act, but so true that he's probably just accepted the insanity of it all. Hahhaha poor Reiner, after all we've seen him go through and then Eren is just waiting there for him....!!! Ordinarily we'd be crazy rooting for Eren, but they've really put us in a position where it's almost flipped. Oh lord, I could totally see that with Eren! I hope it's not true!!! Omg!!! Definitely let me know the theory once we are past that point, whether it comes to pass or not! Can't wait to see the next one either!!! Thank you so much for the support/encouragement!!!!!!!!! ^_^

kamenriderhime

I didn't see it!!! Thanks for being so considerate!!! I tend to agree, I think "beyond redemption" may be a bit absolute for a show like this that works in so many gray areas. I like to think instead that he can never undo the things he did, but that doesn't mean he's bound to the exact same path moving forward. Like you said, he's clearly already trying to keep others from going what he went through, and seems to be able to acknowledge the wrongfulness of what's happened in the past already. Definitely won't be so easy for the victims of his actions like you said, but they do an awesome job of telling us a compelling and heartbreaking story of his life!!!!!!!!
