Hey everyone!  I'm so excited to start watching this series!  Well, this episode just keeps the action going with Motoyasu challenging Naofumi to a duel for Raphtalia's....well....freedom!
BUT, it's more complicated than that, because this clearly has nothing to do with morals or justice.  Plus, we get some shocking info about Myne, and a really heartbreaking/heartwarming scene between Raphtalia and Naofumi!!!  :'D  I'm so glad that the other heroes are starting to recognize who Naofumi really is (and who Motoyasu and Myne really are)!!!  Plus, HE CAN TASTE AGAIN!!!!!!  :D  Great ep, enjoy!  ~ MH

There's a reason raphtalia won best girl award and this episode is just an example

They explained why Raphtalia grow so fast, but i think the reason why Naofumi was so confused, and saw different "stages" of Raphtalia that he never saw her really. So after that scene in the arena, he saw her finally, how grown up she is. Not that little child. Remember even as the shop keep mentioned that she had grown, Naofumi said "really?" as he did not notice it. Also, Spear Dude is dumb and does not notice how Myne uses him.

Thank goodness, I was so fed up w/ the crowds, Myne , king etc. This man needed his do’s. God bless Raphtalia.

Ah okay! I remember them mentioning she was older and Naofumi didn't really notice, but didn't understand why she had suddenly gotten older! Very true that this was the first time he really recognized the growth in her, particularly emotional growth. I'm not loving Spear Dude or Myne at the moment haha, the jury is still out on the other heroes though! Thanks for the info!

I'm late to the party, but yeah, Naofumi had disabled most of the slave crest triggers. Not all though. Also, Raphtalia is actually clever, as she was testing the limits of the slave crest. When she's in the weapons shop, yelling at him, grabbing a sword and saying "you will die", she was checking whether the slave crest would prevent her from threatening or attacking him. Which, it didn't. Also Chad Spearsman is the most clueless man to ever moron his way into an adventure story. "Nobody should be forced to fight" he says, immediately after fighting a duel that his opponent was forced to participate in against his will. "Slavery is wrong" he says as an attack against Naofumi, while standing in the presence of the King and Princess and dozens of nobles, who all support, enforce, and profit from that evil system. I'm amazed he doesn't swallow his tongue. The series OP is full of great symbolism as well, and this episode is what shows it. After Myne shoves Naofumi down the stairs, he falls to his lowest point against a wall of bars. Him on one side and Raphtalia on the other. Then she and him both reach out, past the bars to each other, and the bars fall away. But who was really behind the bars, her, or him? Was one of them a prisoner, or were they both? This is what made me love this show, watching two people save each other from their lowest points in life.

Not at all, happy to have you on board!!!!!!!! :D Got it, thanks for clearing that up about the slave crests. I didn't realize that about Raphtalia, she really is a clever girl! So true about Mr. Wonderful the Spear Hero too, he (and many of the others in the kingdom) are blatant hypocrites! I couldn't believe how gun-ho they were about "freeing" Raphtalia only to have Myne saying discriminatory things about demi-humans one of the very next times we saw her. Motoyasu is such an idiot lol and doesn't even realize what he's gotten himself into. I hadn't caught that about the opening theme but that is beautiful!!!! What a great statement about "who saved who", which in so many ways is the point of the show! Thanks for all the insights!!
