Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 12 of The Apothecary Diaries! OMG!!! I knew as soon as she had to leave, that once Jinshi saw her again he'd have to get her back! I do respect his reasoning somewhat, since it shows a lot of growth on his part that he doesn't just view her as an object and wanted to do what she would've wanted. It's a shame these two couldn't communicate better before now! So what now?! Guess we'll find out! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

hi Hime :) I told you about how Maomao sees things, well separated between commoners and nobles, and that it was going to get in the way between Jinshi and her, you have a blatant example here. Maomao not wanting to beg for her place at the rear palace, makes the way she says it, leaving her fate in Jinshi's hands, give the impression that she didn't want to stay... Even if in the end, it ends well in a way since Gaoshun orchestrated this meeting during the party. By the way, you mention the indirect kiss scene, but in the end it's the only time Jinshi manages to get a reaction from Maomao, she's embarrassed and blushes, because this time, Jinshi doesn't try to seduce her in a manipulative way, but with sincerity hehe. I also want to talk about Maomao's relationship with the brothel. She calls the three "princesses" of the brothel her big sisters and we had already seen that they adore Maomao, but we also see that they like to make her beautiful and tease her, so there is a real sisterly relationship between them, especially with Meimei (the one who sang), for some reason that you will discover later. We also see that even if she is hard on her, the manager of the brothel cares about Maomao, she is not necessarily a maternal figure, but when we see at the end that they both have the same dance of joy, the old lady must have had an influence on Maomao. For the rest, this second part will be both similar and very different from the first, I will let you discover why for yourself, just know that you will learn more about Maomao and her origin.

Jinshi with the dramatics. 😆

Hi Spadeas! :) This was a great example of Maomao's perspective! It did end well thankfully, I guess thanks to Gaoshun's orchestrations, but yeah - talk about a communication breakdown! Thanks for clarifying the relationship that Maomao has with the princesses! They definitely all seemed close. Granny definitely has a soft spot for Maomao, even if it's not a traditional maternal role. I can't wait to know more about Maomao!!!

Finally doing the catch ups from earlier in the week. Obviously, Maomao in reality has no real connection to Fengming but her family did business with the kidnappers. Screwing up in a position that close to the emperor is no joke. Remember, Fengming herself was executed - but everyone of her immediate family got punished as well. China does not play. I would say the best way to describe Maomao and Jinshi’s relationship at this point is “crossed signals.” Maomao is actually doing whatever she can to stay in her position, but the way she worded everything have Jinshi the exact opposite impression - and given the circumstances of her arrival, he’s under the impression she hates it here. Jinshi knows he has power to “curry favor” and keep her in her spot if he do desires, but he’s also torn between what he wants and appearing to act out of bias when he has a responsibility to the entire rear palace. And so, Maomao becomes a “courtesan,” briefly - it’s her sisters who are the big attraction of course, but a chance meeting with Jinshi leads to him freaking out. Maomao still doesn’t get it though. Talk about two smart characters who are rather dense about reading each other. Long story short, this is the end of the first cour, so we start a new arc next time - also new themes! Gotta move on!

Right, it took me a second but I figured it out! Crossed signals is actually a great way to put it! It must be hard to make a decision where you at least have to look like you're remaining neutral. LOL Maomao is so clueless but Jinshi's reaction was priceless!

Yes, you got it. Sometimes with this show it takes 3 or 4 viewings to keep up with shit. I love it
