Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to ep 7 of season 2 of Oshi no Ko! WOW!!! The rivalry and dynamic between Akane and Kana here was brilliant!!! I loved getting to see their backstories...particularly how Akane was influenced in so many ways by Kana. Not just getting into acting because of her, but also the way that she delved into psychological profiling because of their encounter. I was so excited to see them go toe to toe....but Kana's just not ready! It sounds like Aqua and Akane are gonna get her ready though lol! Can't wait! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Hi Hime :) In view of this episode, I will separate my comment into three paragraphs, one for Akane, one for Kana and the third for their relationship. So I start with Akane, we see her point of view a little better and how much she admired and still admires Kana, it is thanks to her that she started playing and even studying psychology, Kana is the origin of the current Akane and that is not nothing. Yes Akane is this actress who loves to play, she says it, she finds it fun, so she does not necessarily consider what is best or not for the rest (she still thinks about it a little), if she has fun on stage, interprets her character as it should be, the audience will receive it and have fun too. She is the type who by having fun hopes to transmit it to those who watch her. Now, concerning little Kana, we see indeed that she was not in a good place at that moment, it was the beginning of her fall, she saw it coming and did everything to hang on desperately while hating herself... That's why seeing Akane, who copies her and says exactly what Kana thinks deep down, made her suffer. The words she said were intended as much for Akane to not follow the path that Kana was taking, as for Kana herself. This scene hurt me I must admit, as much as seeing Kana's trauma resurface and her taking a step back into the shadows. Kana has gotten so used to thinking about her surroundings that she forgets herself, of course what she has done is ideal for the play in general, but by erasing herself like that, is she really having fun ? We've already seen with the end of season 1, when Kana was about to explode and Ruby managed to open Kana's door a little, that she puts enormous pressure on herself by taking responsibility for others, she poses as a support so that it succeeds, without thinking for a single second that those she works with can also support her. From a professional point of view, she is perfect, but she will ruin herself mentally if she continues to forget herself. Kana is an actress behind the mask of an actress. The Kana that we see, smiling, stinging and terrifying at times, is indeed Kana, but she refuses to show the slightest vulnerability, she surrounds herself with walls to protect herself but isolates herself at the same time. Which brings me to my third point, even though they are rivals with Aqua, Akane and Kana can be friends. Akane has a deep respect and admiration for Kana, she loves the little Kana from the past and if she resurfaced, Akane would probably like to be her friend. She has improved her acting and walked her own path in the hopes of playing with THIS Kana. But Kana has suffered so much, that she lets few people enter her heart, to really know her. Aqua managed to break down some barriers, Ruby succeeded later, now it is time for Aqua and Akane to break down the last locks to free the real Kana. What perfectly symbolizes this in my opinion is the moment when Kana says to herself that Akane wants to confront her or dance with her, showing both this rivalry and this desire for rapprochement between them, Kana was ready to take this outstretched hand but was afraid at the last moment and backed down. I really hope their relationship evolves for the better later on, since Akane might be the only one besides Aqua to put Kana back in her place when needed. They just need to sit down and talk together to understand each other now.

Hi Spadeas! :) I think that's a great way to describe Akane, we know that she's doing this for the fun of acting! Kana, particularly when Akane first met her, is just in the opposite position - anything that was fun about it was not the top priority anymore, sadly. And now she's erased herself, like you said, so much from the equation that it's hard to imagine her really having fun with it (at least to the fullest extent). The way she treats herself really isn't very sustainable. I agree that they could be friends!! So many of Kana's barriers are already broken down like you mentioned - I feel like it will just take a little more to really get her there! That moment with the outstretched hand was really so symbolic! I think you're right that Akane might be one of the few people to really understand her and help her, besides Aqua. Here's hoping they can form some kind of bond out of this!!!

Hi Melissa, I’m back for now, and we’ve officially crossed the halfway point of Season 2. Which leads me to think this may get strung out a little longer. Also, it’s probably a good thing with how dense these episodes are you don’t have to do double duty on them since you’re current. 😅 We start by showing what Kana is good at - the sound effects play over Sakuya’s line which is also a key piece of information for the audience, so Kana ad-libs to repeat the information all while staying in character, which impresses both her acting partner in this scene and the director. This also sets up later. We get the first look at Aqua’s character and it seems he doesn’t show much emotion and is very stoic in general - I mean, Aqua probably couldn’t ask for a personality more tailor made for him to fill - the problem he’s dealing with cones later on. Abiko takes note of Akane’s entrance into the play and she’s well aware that her crazy rewrote affected her scene the most - remember, they originally had her character as belligerent and completely different from the manga, but she’s able to convey the original character without a huge monologue just through body movement. Judging by both the author and the audience’s reactions, they’re getting as drawn in by the performance as well. It seems like everyone is pretty much getting paired up with a rival character (both onstage and off), with the exception of possibly Aqua, who has to go against the title character. Which of course, leads to the showdown we’ve been waiting for, Akane Vs Kana. “Please don’t make me feel things” - hey look, we’re getting baby Akane and Kana today, you’re so done for! 😂 Akane got infatuated with Kana at a young age and was what inspired her to get into acting, but unfortunately, she liked the idea behind the industry and not the ugly truth of it. She studies hard and works hard in all her roles until she gets in the same audition as Kana, and through a mixup finds out that Kana is already getting preselected for the roles. This is the first crack in the armor, but the next one is when Kana scolds her for imitating her, but she has to do this because she needs the work. I think on some level she knows it’s wrong, but she doesn’t really have a choice - she needs to stay relevant. Of. Purse this completely shatters Akane’s mindset of her and it’s probably also what triggers her immense skill at profiling since she really starts to probe into the psychology of all of it. (By the way Anya called and would like Akane to return Mister Penguin when she’s finished.) Akane doesn’t like the actor Kama’s become, she’s following the instructions Aqua received from his director as a child and he says as much on the audience - she’s trying to provide exactly what the play needs and act as envisioned. When Akane challenges get, she starts to go but s writhing g she’s been through makes her pull back - her failures and her concept of how to approach everything. Akane nites Kana is at her best when she’s behaving somewhat selfishly in her acting, and that’s what kind of performance her rival is trying to draw out of her: Akane doesn’t want to beat the suppressed version - she wants to drag out the real Kana she knows and then take her out - woman to woman. I’m not sure what Aqua has to do with this plan, but he’s game to try as well. He is t wtong when he says trying to understand Jana’s acting and personality styles can be a bit exasperating - perhaps this is one profile that Akane is having trouble nailing down completely, so she’s going to have to do some reacting of her own. Not sure what the next scene is plotting yet, but this play feels like it’s just getting started at the moment. Quick reminder: English lyrics for the themes will be on the next episode, you might want to notice them. I’m sure it’ll be just as jam packed. By the way, I just have to close with this: how big are emotional pants? 😆

I'm glad I'm not watching 2 at a time right now for sure haha! Kana helping with the adlib was impressive. It's funny how the rivalry breaks the fourth wall a bit! Hahah I'm not sure what I was thinking saying "don't make me feel things" on a show like this anyway! OMG Mr. Penguin is a total reference to Spy x Family right?! I agree with your summation of all the events that led up to Akane and Kana's current relationship. Also I'm not sure what Aqua has planned either, but I'm about to go watch the next ep, so I'll find out haha! Oh thanks, I'll look out for the English lyrics! Haha the pants are not big enough for all the emotion on this show :P
