Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the first OVA in this long-awaited series!!! I have to say, I was kinda expecting it to look funny/silly/cheap....but dang, everything is actually working pretty well here! The only reason you can tell it's aged a bit is because of the actual production quality itself, but all the effects, visuals, sound, etc. are pretty well done. I also love the detailed art style. Everyone looks/sounds good (for the most part....I'm looking at you Joseph!!! lol) and I feel like they were pretty faithful to the source material. All in all I'm enjoying it a lot so far! Honestly I’m a little disappointed you did t catch on right away that a bizarre adventure could start out with a cold bizarre opening. Isn’t that just bizarre? :) That being said this definitely didn’t get aired on the kiddie channel - hoo boy! Honestly, not sure what the stone mask sequence was for context in these, since it basically is from the previous seasons - perhaps it’ll be a thru route. I don’t really have too many thoughts - we went over speculation about plot and stuff in the actual release, which could be pretty much based on this. I’m guessing they used this to help build the anime version - Iggy is definitely cursed, that dog is making me uncomfortable. 😅 It definitely has the look of a 90s animation, when you could well… get away with showing more “stuff.” 👀 Isn’t it ironic the wider our screens become, the more censored content gets? But it did seem to follow the same beats after the opening anyway. Guess I’ll look at the next one.

This was such a treat! I’m kind of disappointed because now I wish it had been animated in full. I didn’t know we’d be watching these but I’m glad. In the back of my mind I was also curious to check them out. Everyone looks great! The stand look amazing! The voices were pretty similar. Albeit Joseph’s sounded very youthful especially in the beginning but I can hear it sounding more grandpa-ish later— like less gruff grandpa sounding. I was pleasantly surprised that everyone looked pretty much like they did in the spruced up version. Dare I say better in some ways because the looks are so early anime anyway that it works tremendously well with this style. Cuz I did get snippets of Jojo ovas (not this one) and now knowing the deal with the companies I understand the difference from what I saw. I’m sure we’ll get to see that later. Should still be fun. Okay cursed Iggy I couldn’t get over in the spruced up version but 90s wise idk it works here. Man it’s crazy seeing this because the 90s anime style is gold in general. Because early anime wasn’t as popular/ made as available/ mainstream whatever they handled certain adult content, for lack of a better word, responsibility. Like I wasn’t surprised when I saw the boobage and sacrificial stuff because 90s anime did that a lot. It’s weird cuz kid me loved certain shows and we’d start with animated Polnareff face and then out of nowhere gore or adultish material in a serious manner. So yeah that was such a different time. And it brings such a different feel to things. I remember the canteen head thing was horrifying in the first one we watched but this you see everything in the detachment of the head. They spared no expense. That looked nasty. 😬 The music, the sound effects, and the way the silence was used was fantastic. There’s probably going to be pauses like that again but these super elongated ones worked wonders for this stand. Im sure there was a lot of stuff added throughout the battle. Especially in the car ride segment. The one big thing I remember mostly was the vehicle landing vertically and everyone getting on. I don’t remember the waiting and “what’s our next move?” sequence we had but maybe it’s the same and the animation style made it seem totally different idk. Possibly this one elongated the waiting. They always made use of stretching things out. It’s funny, I’m used to the anime as it is but thinking about pretty much everything it does work for Jojo. Man I really wished anime was as poppin back in the day. Do people still say that? Now I have to go back because the iconic photo is tripping me up because I don’t remember when they take it. Iggy arrives and he’s looking cursed & in the same arc Kalyoins eyes get slashed, which not are not in the photo. I’m trying to remember if there was an in between episode I forgot about. I really have to go back it’s bugging me so much. 🤔 lol now I’m thinking of all those poochies out there who have had their hearts broken by that player, Iggy. 🤣 🐩 🐕 🦮🐕‍🦺

Hahaha who knew it'd be bizarre?! I thought the title was ironic :P Yeah this was not on Nick or Disney for sure :O I wouldn't be surprised if they based some of the current anime off this, it's similar in a lot of ways. Iggy is so cursed haha! Haha yeah the 90s were quite a time :P I was surprised that they didn't change much, but glad!

Yeah I need to start making official announcements about these things! I just rant a little at the end of one reaction and then never make anything official haha! I think you're right about Joseph, his voice grew on me after a while! I agree, I dare say that in some ways this looked even more detailed than the current anime! Omg I couldn't agree more about the 90s style! They really did get away with a lot more back then cause it just wasn't as mainstream. It definitely gives it an even heavier tone. And the gore on the canteen scene was nasty!! Yeah the use of silence here was especially good! The sound design is great, I'd expect nothing less from Skywalker Sound! Yeah I felt like the car ride scene was a little different, the waiting/what's our next move, etc.! Glad I'm not the only one! Haha I still say poppin! And I agree, this really fits the tone/era perfectly! Omg yes the photo! I don't remember when they took it in the show exactly, but I know it was the desert and Kakyoin's eyes are fine in it :P I have to go back too! I wanna say it wasn't in the manga, only in the current anime? I could be wrong about that though! Hahahaha Iggy broke a lot of hearts for sure :P Think of how many pups he must have!!!!
