As the number of Pigs affected by the African Swine Flue increase it is more likely than not that the price of pork meat will be headed only in one direction; you can guess what that is. 200 Million Pigs is more than half of the pigs that China consumes in one year and the question is where will China make up their deficit in lost protein. As many of you already know, China owns one of the largest Pork Processing plants in the U.S. (Smith-fields) and my guess is that they will be doing whatever it takes to increase their import of pork for use in their country. I say "prepare accordingly" as even if you do not consume pork it is likely that the pressure on the pork market will increase the pressure on other protein based markets hence an increase in price in those markets as well.
