Castles, Forts & Keeps

Haunted Keep

As a reward for their valiant efforts, the adventuring party are awarded a keep just outside the city limits. Its high walls, generous size, and clifftop location make it an ideal home-base for any group of would-be heroes. There is just one small problem, it’s haunted. Surely though, for a group with such storied deeds a few ghosts will be of little concern.

The Keep used to belong to another similarly renowned band of adventurers but was quickly abandoned for unknown reasons almost exactly one year previously. Despite their local fame, the former group disappeared overnight. They had built the keep around an existing chapel that had stood on the spot for centuries. Most assumed they chose the location for its strategic qualities and the existence of the chapel was happenstance, but some whisper of dark rituals that occurred there in the distant past.

Restored Keep

After cleansing the Keep of the Haunting and spending a little time and gold on refurbishment, its ready to move in! New guards have been hired; new staff taken on. The storms seem to have abated, the trees and plants sprung back surprisingly quickly, even the paintings on the walls appear to have more colour and life in them. It would be the perfect home if the nightmares would just stop.

Into the Wilds

Fey Realm 01

Fey Cliffside - A glowing pink liquid cascades in small streams down the hillside, collecting in pools in the upturned cups of giant webcaps. The fungi seem to quiver in delight as the luminous water spills over their edges.
Mushroom Forest - Towering mushrooms of a variety of shapes are tightly packed together. Eerie harmonies seem to float in on the wind from the darkest depths, calling you to leave the safety of the road and seek out their source.
Giant Lily Pads - The lake is so large and so deep that you can see neither the bottom nor the far side. Enormous lily pads cover the surface, close enough that they seem to form a path all the way across. They are certainly strong enough to hold your weight as you leap from pad to pad, but the ripples that emanate from them as you land feel somehow discordant.
Tree Roots - Dotted amongst the multi-coloured flora and fauna are trees of almost impossible height, their trunks piercing the clouds above. At ground level the roots spiderweb outwards, and act like a magnet for a variety of smaller life forms, becoming an eco-system all of their own.

House of Elazar Exterior Scene

Almost everyone agrees that the Elazar Household at the top of the hill is a creepy place at best. Children dare one another to get close enough to touch the heavy iron knocker on the front door before running away squealing, and even the bravest of the townsfolk only walk past if absolutely necessary. The current occupant is Emmanuel Elazar, a pale, gaunt man whose thin features and long sleek hair make him appear much younger than his 50+ years. He very rarely leaves the house, but it somehow always seems empty anyway.

Sion Efficus - The hulking director of the bazaar's black market believes deeply in the machinations of fate. Those who come looking to buy or sell the rarest and most illicit of items in his underworld have to put themselves in the hands of kismet. Some leave with impossible bargains, while others find that more than their purse is forfeit.
Emmanuel Elazar - A pale, gaunt man whose thin features and long sleek hair make him appear much younger than his 50+ years. He very rarely leaves the house, but it somehow always seems empty anyway.
Achelia Carnassus - Once a mighty champion of the Colosseum, Achelia is now Master of Games for the bloodsoaked arena. She still shows vestiges of her former days as an undefeated warrior, but has succumbed to the trappings of the cities wealthy elite.

River’s Revenge

Sleepwalker for 5e & PF2E

Pulled from the remains of a dream stalking spirit, this mask is constructed from an almost otherworldly white glass. A horrific visage has been carved from it to mimic a screaming face. An ornately constructed dreamcatcher sits atop the wig of tangled gray hair, resembling a halo of sorts, but looking far more sinister. Donning it briefly fills your head with disturbing images that quickly subside.

Dreamstalker for 5e & PF2E

The world of the beyond is one that exists in torment and despair. Creatures stuck between their former lives and moving on to the afterlife often present themselves in horrifying ways, seeking to maintain their incorporeal lives through whatever means they can, only moving on once their unfinished business has been seen to and their body properly laid to rest. When a creature is killed in their sleep, and their corpse not properly laid to rest, often a Dreamstalker will rise from their soul and seek to feed on those that would sleep in their presence.
