Castles, Keeps & Forts

Warcamp

Scouts have reported a large army travelling through the mountain pass. The lands beyond the ranges are largely barren, so their sudden appearance and numbers are disconcerting. Wary of provoking escalation with an unknown force the city elders do not wish to send an official envoy until they have some understanding of where the army originates and what their intent is.

The host has set up camp within the foothills, just beyond the border of two neighbouring territories. Due to the terrain, the camps are split and scattered meaning it may be possible to reach the commanders without being seen. The council is looking for a band of adventurers to approach the leaders, learn their mission and if necessary, remove the head before they advance any further.

Hideouts & Lairs

Cloud Temple

This small temple is located on the ridge of one of the tallest mountains along the Epicouatl range. The narrow path leading to it is arduous and deadly, and few have reason to make the trip. For many years, it has been home to a small group of monks. All of whom took a vow of silence and retired here to live a simple life above the world, seeking enlightenment. They had no connection with the outside world, so no one expected to hear from them.

However, a few weeks ago a small township at the base of the mountain received a message via carrier bird that simply read ‘HELP’. The town elders determined the bird had originated from the temple as this particular species is known to nest along the mountain ridge, and aside from the monks the mountain is devoid of civilisation.

Into the Wilds

Plane of Air 01

Endless Blue - The plane of air is an endless blue abyss, stretching infinitely in every direction. There is no gravity except what its inhabitants imagine, no water or land other than what has been bought here or created by arcane means, and yet somehow there are super cool epic looking clouds all over the place? Apparently the water cycle does its own thing here.
Water Sphere - The origins of these aquatic spheres are unknown, and when left alone they simply float along gently on the breeze. The lack of gravitational force means they have formed an almost perfect spherical shape. As you approach this one however, it starts roiling internally, spray flying off as the globule spins faster and faster.
Twister - Vortexes occasionally form in locations where different air currents meet. Occasionally these can become powerful, violent twisters pulling in anything or anyone nearby. If you are unfortunate to be trapped in the centre you had better start praying it ends as quickly as it started, the centrifugal forces are strong enough to pull a person apart.
Earth Mote - These disconnected islands of land floating in the abyss can provide much needed respite for anyone or anything needing to take a rest from flying. Some of them nearer the large settlements have been mapped, but there are many scattered throughout the infinite blue with hidden secrets. Fortunately they can usually be seen from far away due to the lack of haze.

Empty Vial Apothecary Interior Scene

The Apothecary has been added to and built upon multiple times and so has a very ad-hoc appearance from the outside, like a bunch of separate buildings fell into each other. The interior however is clean, well organised and well stocked. Just be very careful what you touch in the back room, some of the ingredients have unique defence mechanisms.

Veylen Sorn - Ferry Captain

Veylen was once a feared warrior, but the loss of his right leg ended his adventuring days. Now he runs the ferry back and forth across River Sarrios. For the most part he hates the job and the passengers, keeping to his cabin as much as possible, but every now and then the ferry is attacked by a larger sea creature and a noticeable sparkle enters his eye.

Admiral Serys - Atakebune Captain

Serys is the lead naval officer aboard the Atakebune, which also makes her the Admiral of the fleet. Standing a full head and shoulders among anyone else onboard, she is a commanding presence despite the ships size. Her crew whispers that even the ocean itself acquiesces to her whims.

Barton Skinner - Schooner Captain

Barton is a relatively small-time pirate, working his way up slowly but intelligently to ownership of his own vessel and crew. Many dismiss him due to his stature, but he has a keen mind, a cruel streak and ambition that greatly exceeds his physicality. More than one of his enemies have regretted underestimating him.

A few weeks ago, a well-trained group of pirates took the fort in a sudden, unexpected skirmish. They are currently holed up inside, firing at any who approach by land or sea. They have sent their demands, effectively holding the bay to ransom. Unless all current and future trade fees are handed over to them, they will sink any ships attempting to enter the bay. Negotiations are at a stalemate, with neither side willing to give ground, and trade ships are waiting out of range until peace is made, unable to offload their cargo.

Pharaoh’s Fortune

Death Knell for 5e & PF2E

In times of extreme duress and anguish, creatures known as Death Bells can manifest in the bells rung to herald the passing of a loved one. This finely crafted wooden staff depicts a hunched and shrouded being holding a skull-shaped bell that lightly chimes when moved about. The staff itself has been imbued with the sticky remnants of a Death Bell. When holding this staff for the first time, you feel a wave of pain and sadness rush over you.

Death Bell for 5e & PF2E

Death Bells are thought to be the incarnation of negative emotions that come from the loss of many around them, coalescing in the herald of that death, the church belfry. While few have experienced such loss necessary to summon a being like this, during times of particularly deadly battles, they have been known to spawn.
