To celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary, they turned their animated feature, Wish, into a centennial celebration. In this review, I’ll be looking closely into this movie and see if this Wish is the film that honors Disney’s legacy or marked its 100 years with a miss.

Couldn't have said it better than myself, now here's wishing the box office will be kinder this weekend

Definitely sounds like a mixed bag of a film and judging by the wide range of opinions. I'll have to see to judge.

I know I am late on this review for the video, but I finally saw it. And, it was a 6 to a 7 out of 10. I was curious about this after seeing your review Mat, along with your friends such as Saberspark, Schraffrilis, and Cellspex. But after seeing the reviews and finally seeing the movie, I can see where the flaws are. I really can tell that the story was undercooked when it came to how Rosas was formed. You can tell something bad happened when you see a part of that partially burned tapestry from Magnifico's chambers. It doesn't tell us what happened or why and what purpose do the wishes cause that has Magnifico have an ego trip. I know it plays a nod to classic Disney storytelling with how there is a book and it tells us the story of these characters and how the story will go. It was the same case in Snow White, Pinocchio (to an extent thanks to Jiminy), Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Robin Hood. And even how it is set up as a prologue, when I compare this to Beauty and the Beast and Tangled, it did it way better than this as the prologue told us everything we need to know along with proper world building and motivation for our characters weather it be the Beast and Rapunzel to be free from their own imprisonment. Also the humor, I would have like to cut out a few lines as it wouldn't have been distracting. While also use the easter eggs sparingly because it does feel a bit unapologetic. When I compare it to Zootopia which had references from The Godfather, The Jersey Shore, and even Breaking Bad, it didn't do it by winking at the camera. It just used them sparingly and integrated it as part of the world. Also the music, is rather mixed for me. Now I know that they got people who are into pop songs rather than musical people. At first I was going to make a counter argument and defend it as Disney had Elton John for the Lion King. But then I remembered that they had a musical theater person in Tim Rice that helped with that aspect (face palm). Okay back to the songs, I do think they just don't flow into wanting to sing but just find a pause and then sing. And the lyrics, sure I know that it was a criticism I heard many times from other reviewers, but after seeing the movie, my god they were right. Now I have autism and sometimes I have a difficult time hearing when it comes to lyrics. But the difference, is that when I do hear a Disney animated movie, I can understand what the lyrics are saying and won't feel confused. But with Wish, I was just "what are they saying?" I could understand a few lyrics but have trouble understanding how some of them at times were a part of the action leaving me confused at times with the characters motivations or if it was necessary with certain song choices. I mean come on, during Magnifico's villain song, I heard a line that went like Jeans From Outerspace and I am going "What?" I just wished (ironic I know) that it could have been better. Like if it had more time to bake, no executive meddling. Just enough to make the film stand on its own without the references and we could have gotten something better. Okay time for some positives. I do think it had a nice message about finding the independence inside to make your own wish come true without how in the end it is all being decided by someone else to grant it for you. And I do think it had that aspect with the climax a bit well but a bit deus ex machima but not much as we see everyone stand up at the end. And even though the animation is not as groundbreaking levels like the Spiderverse movies, The Mitchel's vs The Machines, The Bad Guy's, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, or the new TMNT movie this year. I think it is still a good looking movie on an animation level. And that is it on the positives I can find. Disney really needs to step it up if they are now going to be 100.
