This was definitely a unique review compared to other reviews you’ve done. Honestly with both these films I didn’t really have much interest in watching them, with Rodrick Rules, my only exposure to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise was with the first 3 live action movies and I didn’t really have that much interest in the first animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, and I don’t think I have interest in the sequel, honestly maybe for the people who are huge fans of the franchise they might like it, but for everyone else it’s not worth it, as for Kahmunrah Rises Again, personally I enjoy the the Night at the Museum movies and I do think they are fun and enjoyable movies, as for this new one, I think as a movie on its own it’s fine but as a Night at the Museum it’s honestly subpar compared to the live action films, especially with some elements like the story not being good and also not being able to do justice to Robin Williams as Teedy Roosevelt, honestly if this would actually be an animated series, I can see how it could work. But honestly it does make me hope that we will see some improvements to Disney's animated films that they would put on Disney+ because as of late some of them have not been that great and just feel hasty put together to just serve as more content for Disney+.

I kinda enjoyed Rodrick Rules but maybe I'm just biased lol. I am a fan of the books. Perhaps big name reviewers will start to sway my opinion :P

I don’t blame you in watching those Disney+ movies given how little effort Disney put onto those films just so they add more content on that service and trying to gain more subscribers. I mean Netflix, while they are no better, they put more effort on to their animated films than this. For the animated version of Rodrick Rules, I didn’t bother watching it given my bad impression with the first film last year while to not mention feeling that I rather stick with the live action version than this as I feel like there was more effort and more energetic than the cartoon version as a Wimpy Kid fan. For the Kahmunrah Rises Again, I did watched it and I find okay if it weren’t for the decent action scenes and okay animation despite being so off at times. I think it looked better than the animated Wimpy Kid movies, but not saying much as it still weak with the story, writing, and characters. I mean I do like the first two live action films a bit more but this animated film looked better than the last installment in my opinion. Not good for either films, but at least the latter was a bit better.

I’ll admit I did enjoy Rodrick Rules and thought it was a slight improvement over the first animated film by not only Rodrick and Frank Heffley being more prominent in this one compared to the first where Rodrick was in only one scene for the purpose of conveying to Greg what his first experiences in middle school will be like and Frank in just two, but it also features more scenes from the books compared to the first. Well, okay, they still cut out some subplots like the Invisible Chirag joke, playing Magic and Monsters with Leland, Rowley’s family trip and birthday and Greg being in the swim team, etc., but at least I felt like there was more stuff in Rodrick Rules compared to the first. And I’ll admit, I did buy Greg and Rodrick’s relationship and did feel like they had a bond where despite Rodrick often bullying him they still loved and cared for another. I did like that scene where Greg and Rodrick talked outside the school and they said as brothers how they’ll fight but they’ll still care for another. Night of the Museum: Kahmurah Rises Again, I’m not really interested in checking out anyways considering I thought Secret of the Tomb was an average yet serviceable conclusion to the series and there being no point considering Robin Williams’ death the same year as Secret of the Tomb was released and obviously no one being able to replicate or succeed him in his performance as Teddy Roosevelt. On the one hand, I am glad Kahmurah was brought back as my issue with the third film was how he never once got mentioned, not even Larry telling Ahkmenrah’s parents his encounter with their oldest son in the second film or even Ahkmenrah’s parents mentioning their firstborn. But asides from that nice bit of bringing back something from one of the sequels, I’m still not that interested in checking it out.

Regarding Kahmunrah, I don’t know why, but it reminds me of Eight Crazy Nights. The animation styles look very similar to me.

Thank you! For the past few years, I’ve questioned the point of Bob Iger acquiring 21st Century Fox aside from adding the final building block of Disney+ and Hulu’s infrastructure. In the case of 20th Century content exclusive to the former, that reason could not have rung truer.

Lady Tyler Bio Rodriguez

I see DTV sequels are alive and well again, just at Disney Plus and not Disneytoon.
