It was a disaster at the box office, but does that mean the movie itself is also a disaster?

Nightmare Before Christmas is next!

Hugo Segal

So we're capping off the 2020 Classic Reviews with "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The perfect gift to unwrap from the Electric Dragon tree! That will be either an 8/10 or an easy 9/10 (Seal of Approval). We're moving on from two disappointments to one of the most beloved stop-motion animated features of all time!

Sam Snyder

wow a 7/10. the way you were building up to the score you made it sound like a 6/10 but you caught me by surprise. after this depressing week so far just seeing you give this above a 6/10 made me somehow happier. thank you. as for the next review... that is in my opinon 1 of the most somewhat overated films ever. not saying its bad at all, and it is good in its own way (not terrible at all), but it's just a little over hyped in my own eyes. that being said i am intersted in your nexty review

While I do like this movie I don’t think it’s Disney’s best and one problem I have with it is that they made Jim Hawkins too much like Aladdin, also I think we can all agree that I’m still here is a great song. Also, finally we’re getting a review of the Nightmare Before Christmas I can’t wait!!! And I do like the idea of reviewing holiday movies during that specific holiday the movie is set in i think that’s clever, and I’m guessing that’s why you set the movie that I requested for February

I still like Atlantis more so than Treasure Planet, but I get what you mean and why it had a cult following to this day. The Nightmare Before Christmas, oh boy I can’t wait for that month especially I just rewatch that for Halloween. Can’t wait to see it next month!

I’m disappointed that there was no “The Treasure Planet” reference. But nonetheless, The Nightmare Before Christmas is next! Been longing for you to review it.

This is actually one of my fav Disney movies so count me in on that cult following :D. I love the immersive universe you point out and I’m sad we don’t get to see the tv-series that was in the works. I can see what you’re getting at about Jim, but imo the only downer among the characters is B.E.N. for obvious reasons. Maybe I’m a bit of an angsty teen myself, despite being 26 as of now hehe. The bond between John Silver and Jim is phenomenal, and Silver and Capt. Amelia are criminally underrated Disney characters! Another great review and I’m looking much forward to the next one!

Great review, Mat. This makes me want to take another look at it, if it’s on Disney+.

Justin Monti

While I do understand why this film has gained a cult following over the years, I definitely agree with you. I do find the film to just be good not great just good. I can definitely see what they were trying to do with the film, but with the way the the story is built at some points and how some of the characters are not that great it does make the movie suffer. However I think we can all agree that this really isn’t one of the worst Disney animated films out there. I will still gladly take this over films like Home On The Range and Chicken Little any day of the week. And I also think it really didn’t deserve the title of biggest animated box office bomb from Disney. I’m actually a little disappointed that you didn’t make a reference to The Treasure Planet in this review. So the next classic review is The Nightmare Before Christmas, very fitting for the holidays and easily one of the most iconic and most beloved Christmas films out there.

I'm so excited that Animat is going to review The Nightmare Before Christmas. That actually has to be my favorite movie animated in stop motion.

Its no masterpiece but I would agree it probably deserved a better fate then what it got.
