Hello (free and paying) Patrons!

This is the start of a brand new era for our Patreon. One where we have a larger pool of Patrons thanks to Patreon allowing us to demo free membership. What does this mean? Well basically our paying Patrons are getting more exclusive behind-the-scenes clips, bonus videos, exclusive live Q&As and more. But from now on The Patron Show will be available for all patrons - including our new free members.

This new feature is part of a pilot that Patreon are running. It's actually built off of the old "followers" system so if you "followed" this channel over the past (almost) 7 years, welcome - you're now a free patron and will get access to our monthly Patron show for free now.

We signed up because we think it'll allow us to bring more of our online community into the fold. Obviously without our paying patrons we will go our of business overnight, but we believe that opening ours doors a bit will allow more of you to stay in touch with what we're working on and those of who you quit to keep in close contact. Perhaps even some of you will become paying members one day.

Just wanted to say, that I personally am still into big studio/project docs, but i absolutely agree that you should only do them if they're really willing to show/discuss early process and development and behind the scenes. Otherwise it's just kind of slightly more interesting PR. Think the Horizon or FF14 docs. They're big projects/studios but we learned super interesting stuff that sometimes hadn't even been discussed publicly or shown before, and saw peeks into how the projects became what they now are, long before they were that. That, along with telling individual people/devs' stories, is why I love Noclip's docs, and what's important, i feel. On the other side of that, is stuff like the recent ND Last of Us Part 1 doc, which, i feel bad saying it, but mostly just felt like extended PR for the remake and didn't get into too much of the process/behind the scenes/people of the original development. It touched a bit on tech, which I do appreciate, but otherwise it felt mostly just sort of superficial, unfortunately, and like they didn't really want to get too deep on stuff. Anyway, love NoClip. Keep it up Danny and the crew!

Thanks Phillip, yea as you said we want to make sure we get more meat on the bone when we do them. Even last week I had a call and basically demanded that we get proper behind-the-scenes development access or we can't do it. So like you said, like our best big studio docs like FF14, Doom, etc. I think we need to hold ourselves accountable to that level in the future.

Crazy that Patreon took pointers from the popularity of Danny's free OnlyFans page for this new tier. Jokes aside, very excited for everything in the works. Keep up the great work, guys, and please let us know if there are other ways fans can support the work.

I think I'm also in a legacy tier that hasn't been around for years now, $20 or something? I even ended up in the credits for a few docs without actually being in the tier for it! 😅

Around the 17:00 mark you mention you couldn't do the two-hour AoE doc you wanted - I don't know if this is something planned for higher tier patron posts, but I'd love to read (or watch!) you guys talking about that process and what wasn't possible/what lead you to making a 30-minute doc instead.

Didnt know theres a free tier. Lost my job back in March (Did IT, companies been doing layoffs since November, most jobs in company are heading overseas :( - Gonna hold off dropping after hearing Patrons are below 4,000. Also want to support this amazing organization making these incredible documentaries.
