Ever since I was a wee lad I liked orks and the baddest of them all was Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. There's just something cool about their ramshackle appearance and barbarians at the gate kind of feeling. He will be featured in tomorrow's video as I'm starting a few different masterclass series side by side. Next week's topic will be Conan's skin tone.

Okay, I'm getting ahead of myself. While I was watching Warhammer Weekly last night I started building a base for the big brute. No way am I using the stock basing material! Excuse me, I have to sip my IPA, heh. But ground level just won't do for the great destroyer.

My love for a buffet is surpassed only by my love of painting. Just look at all those options. This base has to be huge and littered with scrap, thick and dangerous like the monster on top of it.

Here is the general shape. I needed to get the position right for his feet but with a little razor work on the cork board I eventually got it in the right place. It all starts with a loose foundation and major shape to build on.

The pose and general lines of the model are oriented in a V shape. The exhaust pipes, tusks, angles of his feet, and arms (when attached), all made for strong composition lines.

I wanted to add to that with many of my own powerful V shapes. Starting with larger pieces of brass tubes, and a couple other elements that I saw to be very necessary, this is the second layer.

A two hour episode of Warhammer Weekly and four bottles of glue later, I had amassed and confusing and impressive layer of chaos.

Let's see if he fits!.. Ay that's proppa!

There he squats! Making landfall, maybe rebounding from a powerful attack that has no effect on him, or possibly ignoring his Ballistic Skill 2 rolls by having a four barreled cannon? An effective BS 8? I'm into it!

In hindsight I may add some spent shell casings to the base as well. Maybe a few more space marine parts, a helmet and a discarded bolter. Just one more layer of small details.

Unchained!
