Hi everyone, here's a background for the rat movie! The background also doubles as a frame for the next scene, so to demonstrate, here it is inside itself!

At the beginning of this piece, I did a test animation of a rat in some walls with a background kinda similar to this. Those walls were a bit old timey, like they had stone masonry and dirt floors in them and stuff. Now that the film is underway and I've got more context, I thought that the walls would need to be a bit more modern, so I've revisited them with concrete and chipboard and insulation.

This was a little more challenging to work with, since chipboard and insulation are kind of ugly! And that's thematically appropriate, but we also spend a lot of time in the walls in this movie and I don't want all the backgrounds to be ugly! So I've done my best to romanticize these building materials. Hopefully I've done ok, because there's a lot more wall cavities to come!

I love how much the backgrounds have evolved through development. Your 3D material and lighting setup has become so natural and visceral. And yet its still Felix... fantastic. The bricks look like I'd find them in a cookie tin.
