A day or two after I posted about the unused Kickstarter illo, Sarah asked me if I was 'awake enough to look at a file" (it was early afternoon, I had just got out of bed after my latest insomnia-thon). I had no idea what she was talking about but my initial guess was that she had been working on a Teepublic T-shirt design, either the Pirate Cat or the "Get Out of Comics Free"  design (which has been back-burnered along with other designs due to life complications). To my surprise it was the final clean-up/colors for the monster art done for the Kickstarter lo, those many months ago. I didn't fuck up after all!. Sarah said the book just got pushed back to time with the main KS project, the Grummy short film spearheaded by Micheline Pitt, and that cartoonist J.B. Roe had taken over the editing and production for  the book to help out. So, anyway, that's nifty.

The KS made its funding in late 2018 and a lot's happened since then, obviously. Mostly awful. Anyway, here's the KS and the book info, fyi.

A GIRL & HER MONSTER ART BOOK (PHYSICAL)

A high-quality art book featuring sketches and paintings inspired by childhood imaginary friends from an all-star roster of artists, including:

- GUY DAVIS - CHET ZAR - JORGE R. GUTIERREZ (The Book of Life) - ERIC POWELL (The Goon) - MIKE HILL (The Shape of Water) - EVAN DORKIN (Beasts of Burden) - VINCENT PROCE - NATALIE HALL - ALLEN WILLIAMS - SARAH DYER - STEPHANIE BUSCEMA - IRIS COMPIET - ABIGAIL LARSON - J.B. ROE

(and others)

It's really weird that in a year that I stepped away from producing comics for traditional publication, a lot of projects we've worked on are coming out or are being re-published.

I just got the comps for DC's Deluxe Bizarro Comics/World HC. We're waiting for the Marvels Snapshots HC (no comps on the single issue, so who knows if they'll pony up or screw up on the collection), the Beasts of Burden: Occupied Territory, HC comes out later this year, I wrote the foreword for La Mano Del Destino for J. Gonzo last year (and assume I'm getting a copy), there are two DC Superman Adventures collections due out (one that's all-Supergirl, which will also be included in a boxed set of girl-superhero paperbacks), Dark Horse is putting out a paperback edition of the Book of Horror collection (where Beasts of Burden debuted), I'm getting a comp of Nate Piekos' anticipated book on comic book lettering (because of his use of Beasts of Burden panels that he lettered) and now I guess the Grummy book should pop up in the mail later this year. Wild.

And there was going to be a Predator Omnibus but Marvel pushed that back to 2022 for some reason. Not that I'm holding my breath on comps (or royalties, for that matter, but there are people looking into getting Disney to honor existing freelance agreements on absorbed IP -- if you've read about the Star Wars/Alan Dean Foster situation it's along the same lines). We'll see. They did send me a Deadpool Omnibus that included my Agent X/Fight-Man stuff. I traded it in for store credit, that's way too much Deadpool to take up limited shelf or storage space. I have the trade that collected them, that's more than good enough.

Just remembered that BOOM! Studios never sent me comps on the paperback edition of the Bill and Ted's Excellent Comic Book collection. Was it something I said about their page rates? Tweeted about their crappy page rates? Who the hell knows. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just plain oversight, cheapness or a combination of the two. I like the people I dealt with at BOOM! a lot but the guy running the joint is a bum, imho.
