I can't remember if this signing was set up for when I was in Gainesville visiting Sarah or if it was later on and Sarah and I were there visiting her family. I do remember that the store had a life-size cardboard stand up of Dr. McCoy from Star Trek across from the table I was seated at. I'm also pretty sure no one showed up for the signing except Sarah's friend Bill, who took pictures with Dr. McCoy. There wasn't really much else to do while we waited to leave but look at Dr. McCoy and feel somewhat mortified by yet another dud signing. The appearance actually got written up in the local paper, which was surprising and was pretty neat. But no one showed up.  Except Bill. And Dr. McCoy, sort of.

I've had very few successful signings in my career outside of Comic Book Jones (R.I.P.).

One bit of trivia -- the Predator series I was writing for Dark Horse Comics at the time ended up being called "Bad Blood". It was pitched as "Free For All', like it appears on the flyer. Then it was called "Body Count", but that was deemed too violent. So, it ended up as "Bad Blood". A toy company (NECA) recently re-released Predator action figures based on the characters artist Derek Thompson and I created for the comic. It would have been cool if they sent a set to me and Derek. Yeah.

Did I tell you that I've had very few successful signings in my career?
