Howdy, wonderful people!

It's always convenient when I have something lying around for scale!  This little Lego fellow turned out to be just the right size for demonstration the spacious surrounds of this little storage capsule, though it does look a little like he's settling in for some kind of interstellar cryosleep.

This little box came to life just so I could make that little wavy connection on the side.  I like those kinds of irregular joins, and it provides some useful finger grabbing surface, too.   The rest of the container just formed itself around that, with room for two pairs of our favourite 6x3mm magnets to optionally hold things closed securely.

Print Description

This is an articulated print, so make sure your first layer is nice and neat, and that there aren't any print issues like stringing or overextrusion that might bind moving parts together!

Besides, you'll want the bottom layer to look nice, since that's the outside of the box :)

Print Dimensions

The Nano Capsule occupies 42mm x 107mm on the print bed and is 25mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!

Scalability

This will probably scale a little, but obviously the magnets will no longer fit once that happens!  The hinges have the usual generous tolerances, but will get looser or tighter with scaling.  But give it a try anyway!  Adventurous 3D printing is good 3D printing! :D

Print Orientation

The Nano Capsule prints open, with both outside surfaces down.

File Location

You'll find this one at at 553 Nano Capsule

Further Thoughts

Oh, I forgot to mention the felt insert!  So, this little box has a lip around the main body walls and an indent in the lid that's intended to accommodate a little bit of padding.

Here are some rough dimensions to get you started:

* Lid insert: 27mm x 38mm

* Main insert base: 29mm x 40mm with 2mm truncations at the corners.

* Main insert walls: 19mm tall x ~133mm long.  I ended up trimming that length to fit once I had it glued in place on three of the walls.

Happy printing!

xoxo

Sven.
