Howdy, wonderful people!

Yes, more questionable food choices in printed form!  This time, we have a hot dog, complete with a delightful squiggle of delicious sauce.

The sausage is effectively a lid, and pops vertically into the bun.  There are holes for optional magnets should you want more security in your hot dog storage, but that's strictly optional.  The sauce prints separately and slots into the top of the sausage.  It could be glued, but it's a reasonably secure fit anyway due to the large contact surface between the two parts.

There's some fun geometry going on in the bun, and designing this involved a lot of back-and-forth deciding where the dividing line would be between the sausage and the bun in order to form a complete and reasonably secure closure between the parts, and to allow for the magnets.  Originally, the magnets were on the bottom of the sausage, and the bun had corresponding magnets facing upwards.  However, I really try to avoid that kind of arrangement where the magnets get pulled directly outwards, as it does make it far more likely that glued-in magnets will eventually need re-gluing, which is no fun.  So, the design morphed to allow the magnets to sit on the sides instead.

Print Description

This is a regular mode print.  Infill won't make a huge difference, so you can feel free to go light on that if you so desire.

I did notice that default slicing resulted in a very obvious seam on one corner of the bun on my initial prints, so you might want to check that in your own slicing to keep things looking as neat and tidy as they possibly can.

Optional Magnets

As usual, this model uses 6x3mm cylindrical magnets.  They're entirely optional, though, and the lid will stay in place just fine without them (unless you turn it upside-down).

Print Dimensions

The bun model occupies 130mm x 70mm on the print bed and is 52mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!

Scalability

The main issue with scaling will be the impact on the way things fit together.  As things scale up, it'll get looser, and scaling down will make things tighter, though you might be able to adjust with some clever slicing!

Of course, the magnet holes will also scale, so bear that in mind if you're planning to use those!

Print Orientation

Each part prints right-way-up, like so:

Further Thoughts

Bad things happen when you misremember what colour filament is loaded in the printer, and fail to actually check...

Happy printing!
