Howdy, wonderful people!

Tessellating shapes are something that have always fascinated me.  The idea of strange shapes that happen to mesh together with complete precision and tile a plane is just such a cool thing, especially when the shapes involved are odd and indistinct at first glance, like this one!

As you can no doubt work out from the tiling pattern, these are fundamentally hexagonal, though you could be forgiven for thinking they're triangular given that there are three of each of the main design elements on the shape.  I did make sure to put a hexagonal handle on the lid, just to keep it clear what we're dealing with, though :)

Print Description

There are two versions of the Sector caddy:

* Regular print version, with an optional inset lid.

* Vase mode version.

In theory, you can join the two types together, if you really want to!

Print Dimensions

The Sector Caddy occupies 70mm x 70mm on the print bed and is 50mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Nope!  Designed for straightforward printing.

Scalability

These will scale quite well, though there is a thin allowance between the surfaces to let them fit together, and that will get looser or tighter accordingly.

Print Orientation

All the models print right-way-up!

File Location

You'll find this one at at 648 Sector Caddy

Further Thoughts

I really should do more with tessellations, but perhaps over a sphere instead of on a plane...

Happy printing!

Sven.
