Cogs and vase mode!  These cogs and rack gears, while faithfully based on legitimate gear profiles, are forever locked into place by their vase-mode-ish-ness.  Gears just look cool, though, and I'd been meaning to try to work them into a vase design forever!

This one went though a bunch of different concepts before it ended up in its final triangular prism shape.  The cogs were twisted around a cylinder (boy did that look silly), and tiled around a hexagonal prism (not bad), but the slender, tall form we have here really made the cogs the most obvious element, as they should be.  Besides, the sharp angles really do give a stark, industrial feel, and I always love that!

Further Thoughts

Hmm, I wonder if there could be some hybrid between this concept and the Arboreal Vase that might allow the cogs to be visually separate from the rack gears down the sides?  The big problem is keeping the angles neat - no horizontal planes allowed!  Still, that would be cool...

Happy sprocketing! :)
