Howdy wonderful people [who love geometry]!

Another vase in the growing family that includes the Reciprocal and Inversion vases, the Illusionist Vase dispenses with the twists but keeps the same sense of contrasting texture and that same kind of double-shell style.  Where it really differs, though, is that internal texture, which features a kind of scooped-out, scalloped profile that looks very different to the twisty ribs of its brethren!

The scoops are curved, extending inwards instead of outwards, which is the main reason this vase doesn't twist - the twisting would wrap the scoops around the curved profile and make them seem convex again, and that would spoil the effect!

Not surprisingly, that texture is the reason this vase exists, and the rest was built about it to give that texture a home.

So, some technical notes!  You'll  notice that the heights of the scooped bits changes over the height of the vase.  For the sake of keeping our printers happy the angles in this model are all kept to 45 degrees or less, so when the gradient of the vase profile starts to veer significantly from vertical the scoops get elongated to ensure those angles stay friendly.

Further Thoughts

I'm such a sucker for contrasts.  At one point I'd added some extra detail to those outer slab bits, but they look so much better blank, and really make the interior texture more obvious.

Happy printing!
