Hey there, wonderful people!

Brighten up even the gloomiest of days with this cheerful fellow!  The Sunshine Box is a threaded box with a hinged lid and a threaded collar that holds it closed, and it all prints in place, assembled and ready to go.

This one came from a challenge I set myself: how could I make a threaded closure that involved a hinged lid?  The big question was how to have a lid that hinged off the ground plane without it causing problems with a ring that needed to move up and down the outside?

As you've no doubt already seen in the pictures, the answer was to set a hinge just inside the perimeter of the thread and swing an arm out and over the ring.  That also meant that the lid had to be a crescent shape, to allow it to fit next to the ring when the box was opened (or printed!).  And, what is a crescent shape if not the beginnings of a super cheerful smiley face?!  A few test prints later the smiley face had become a smiley sun!

Printing Tips

This is an articulated model, so you'll want your bottom layer to be nice and neat, and you'll want to make sure you don't have any print issues like stringing or overextrusion that might bind moving parts together!

The Sunshine Box prints in the following orientation:

If there was ever a model that called for bright, shiny, fun colours, it's this one!  Happy printing!

This is brilliant, I love it! Woke up to find the notification in my inbox, and instantly knew what Iโ€™d be printing today :) Printed in eSun silk yellow, 0.2mm layer height with a .6 nozzle in just over 6 hours. Worked perfectly straight off the build plate! Thanks for another great design :D

Sparkss

Printed it right after it was released. It came out nice and clean!

Could we get a mount for these? You could screw it into the mount while it is in the locked position. Would be great for screws and other small parts.
