Look at that hopeful, optimistic expression!  That's right, wonderful people, our faithful annoying clacky skull now has cartoony eyeballs!  Bring new, er, life, to your day with this sunny fellow!

So, what's changed from the original?  Well, the eye sockets now have a threaded post for eyeball attachment, but is otherwise the same as always - still print-in-place, support-free and noisy :)

The eyeball itself screws onto into the eye socket, and the threaded pupil screws into that.  And ta-da!  A skull with eyeballs!  Because, why not? :P

Printing Tips

All the usual advice is applicable here - watch out for that bottom layer neatness, and be careful of anything like stringing or overextrusion that might bind moving parts together.

The parts print with the following orientation:

Further Thoughts

Oh, this whole cartoon eye idea was actually sparked by a request for some inserts that could make the eyes and nose of the original chompy skull a bit more pronounced!  So, I did up those, too, and they're in the same directory (as well as in the original Chompy Skull directory, now, too).

You'll notice on each piece there's a small circle on one side - that's the side that faces inwards, and you'll want to stick the pieces in place.

Have fun!

Stumbled across your Patreon, and it was an instant subscribe! I think I've still got some GITD filament left that will be perfect for these eyeballs :D

Anonymous

Yup. It was only a small 250g spool, but still got plenty left.

You should make inserts that have threads so that we can add eyes to already printed Chompy's

Anonymous

Thanks, that was quick. Will give it a try as soon as possible.

Chompy skull is still printing... I forgot to drop the infill from my previous print when I sliced it and didn't notice until it was about half way through, so it's using a lot more filament and time than I planned!

Anonymous

Finished, and pic posted in the discord :D

What infill do you suggest?

clockspring3D

I don't think it'll matter too much - I probably use 15% but even that is likely overkill :)

Anonymous

Ah, thanks. Is this the standard you use for your fantastic models? If not, some advice in the descriptions to your settings regarding the single models would be great

clockspring3D

Yep, I try wherever possible to make things reliably printable using very common slicer settings on very common machines, so 0.4mm nozzles, 0.2mm layers, and so on. Your question does make me wonder if perhaps a Frequently Asked Questions page somewhere might be in order!

Oh, sorry dir inconvenience. I am Kind of a beginner, so for me it Sometimes seems unrealistic that such complicated models are stable enough with infill of 15% for example. By the way: Tried the Skull this nicht. Looks great.
