So!

A recent Distressed Damsels post (for the $5+ tiers) featured a commission request for SF heroines Rose & Lily bedamseled by the Sean Connery iteration of James Bond. Alas, I couldn't quite pull off the Connery resemblance in the final piece, so I thought I'd try again with an especially striking and well-lit Bond photo I'd saved to my ref folder:

Wellp, I captured the lighting well enough (which was the more important element from this effort), but once again the resemblance largely evaded me:

Then again, I've never had any training whatsoever in capturing resemblances; in fact, I've considered taking a caricature course of some sort to help me gain a better grasp of how to exaggerate and differentiate more strongly the faces I'm drawing in my photoref sessions.

Note, BTW, that this piece was drawn in iOS Clip Studio Paint using the Design Pencil brush which, oddly enough, performs much, much better on the iPad than on the Wacom Cintiq. Mysterious, I say!

However, this particular illo was not yet complete at this point. After finishing the Bond portrait, I enlarged the canvas and drew a bedamseled Rose next to ol' Sean with results that were rather more mixed, though still quite interesting and somewhat promising; alas, viewing of that revised illo will be reserved for the $5+ tiers in another Distressed Damsels post later in the month.

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: No idea, TBH, as to what might be coming up in our next M/W/F slot. Let's find out together, shall we?

Wow, I wondered what was familiar about the guy's resemblance... Now I know! Maybe it was because the hair was just a bit *too* black and had a whiff of maybe they're using just for men, but this one definitely gets across the idea of who it's meant to resemble now.

That is absolutely amazing! You are Big League but we all knew that already

If I was going to nitpick with the portrait, I'd say that you're a little off in depicting the lips. I think his lips are thinner than you depicted. The photo shows there's a "plane" (??) under his lip, so his lips aren't really that full. Even without seeing the reference, he's still EASILY recognizable as Sir Sean Connery.

I'd disagree with your assessment. I think you very much captured the resemblance this time. I had no idea who the guy was supposed to be in the shot with the fake-Lovely Angels. I knew _instantly_ who this shot was supposed to be. A very distinct Connery of the early Bond days. So you're not as bad at the technique as you think. Maybe that fLA image was just a bit cursed?
