Behold, a multiply revised page rough and a bunch of design sketches from a rather Dirty-Pair-flavored SF scene in the upcoming Empowered vol. 12. I've been holding off on tackling this particularly sequence until I worked up more designs for it, but this weekend I decided I should just bite the (no doubt caseless) bullet and jump right into the damn thing.

Easy to forget, nowadays, that producing Empowered was once a loosey-goosey and freewheelingly spontaneous experience, as opposed to the laboriously slow and grindingly methodical slog that the series' creation has calcified into as the volumes grew tighter and denser and (much) more detailed over time. I'm hoping to recapture a bit of the series' early, off-the-wall "flava" as this volume crawls ever-so-slowly towards the finish line like unto Zeno's tortoise, but I have my doubts about that.

UPDATE: At the end of the image gallery above, tacked on the just-completed underdrawing for the first panel which, nightmarishly enough, has taken me two full g-d work hours to finish. (And it's not even 100% finished, as I haven't yet sketched in the urban debris aswirl around 'em.) I might end up cutting this cyberpunky scene short, if the detail-intensive outfits are gonna take me this g-d long to draw.

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: Not sure, TBH, but quite possibly a li'l somethin' somethin' in the Distressed Damsels vein for the $5+ Patron tiers.

Otaku Twenty-Four Seven

Mm-hmm getting some juicy delicious Sim-Hell-esque vibes from this layout, I can't wait to get my hands on the book when it's done. Looks great so far!

Black Razor FTW. Word to my old-school gamers!

Strypgia

Little bit of GitS and other Shirow in there, too. Thugboy might be a little jazzed about the sweet cyberpunk guns.

Burninator

Hang on, if Emp, Ninjette, and Thugboy are hanging around in the DPVerse with teched up gear, does this mean that Kei and Yuri are now roaming around the Empverse with superpowers? Guess San Antonio might have a few friends now.

Kei-Pow is my favorite of the Lovely Angels. Her S.L.A.M.M. (Strike Launching Atomic Miscreant Masher) gauntlet is an amazing piece of technology!

2021-11-11 02:00:34 I wonder what other genres Emp & co will visit during vol 12. Mexican telenovela? Ibsen play? 80s slasher movie? The mind boggles!

I hadn't actually considered the horror movie option; I might well work in something along those lines, however briefly!

2021-11-20 07:54:59 I seriously appreciate the work you put into the series. Many people wouldn't care about all the little details like you do. But the workload is a problem. >.>
