This month, my Patreon's informal "Design Tuesday" feature will be featuring my initial, circa-1992 sketches of the lead characters from the anime Bubblegum Crisis, drawn as part of my Studio Proteus pitch to write and draw an original, English-language BGC comic miniseries. (Non-SPOILER ALERT: The proposal was eventually successful, and in 1994 wound up producing the 4-part Dark Horse miniseries Bubblegum Crisis: Grand Mal, sadly long of print and never to be reprinted due to intractable licensing issues.)

A few words, as we continue with Linna:

Decent enough shot of Linna's hardsuit, but the profile shot kinda blows. Shape up, 1992-ish Me!

Of course, we're seeing Fitness Instructor Linna, instead of Bubblegum Crash's surprising career change to Stockbroker Linna. (But let us not speak of Bubblegum Crash, folks.)

Interestingly enough, while BGC designer Kenichi Sonoda was one of my key artistic influences in my first decade of manga inspiration, I can't say that I'd specifically riffed off his character designs until Grand Mal. I'm happy to say that I got a lot better at emulating his approach during the actual miniseries.

Next Tuesday, one last Knight Saber! But WHO...? (Who else, might some be be thinking.)

TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: The DISTRESSED DAMSELS weekly feature for the $5+ Patron tiers rolls on, but at present (as I schedule this post in advance on Nov. 4) I have no idea precisely what that content might be.

I'm entirely convinced the writer on Crash never even watched Crisis.

I never tire of seeing your Bubblegum Crisis art.

Apparently, COVID has tanked the demand for chewing gum by 1/3+ because the vast majority of gum is consumed outside of the home at places people aren't going due to the pandemic. As a result, there really is a Bubblegum Crisis now, but despite that, for some unfathomable reason, the lameoid writers are still being stingy with the hardsuited chicks.

Aww, I liked Linna in Crash (at least for the first 2/3 of the series before Priss inexplicably became the main character and shoved her to the sidelines). But I was never big into the original BGC, so the differences didn't offend me. I mean, at least in Crash Linna was, like, important to the plot ever, which was an improvement on the original in that regard. (or, wait, that's 2040, not Crash. I bet that's even more beloved by you, though.)
