DISTRESSED DAMSELS: New EMPOWERED DiD "at-home con sketches," plus roughs (Patreon)
Content
Here's a pair of recent—very recent, as in finished yesterday—Patron commissions drawn in the 11" X 14" two-color format I use for con sketches, featuring Empowered characters bedamseled to varying degrees of distress.
A few words:
A photoreference-based piece, featuring some very tricky and difficult to interpret foreshortening on the models. Still, worked out decently enough.
I definitely wouldn't expect to see quite as much perspective drawing in future commissions, though; in fact, I had to use an odd perspective cheat to generate vanishing points so far away, which I'll likely post about at some point (if I can find a relevant video or blog post covering the technique in mo' detail).
Not photoref-based, for good or ill. No, wait, I did use photoref for the shading on Emp's midriff, in the hopes of gleaning a wee bit more life drawing knowledge.
Trying something different with Emp's hair in these. Not sure the "lightsaber effect" (white core, color "aura") and blonde hair quite go together, but what the hell.
Did the roughs for two different commissions as quarter-page thumbnails (more or less) on a sheet of 8.5" X 11" copy paper.
By contrast, the other piece's initial rough took up a whole sheet of letter-size paper. In both cases, I blew up the relevant figures in Photoshop until they were as large as my (letter-size) printer could handle, then lightboarded 'em onto the piece's final Bristol board as loose scrawls to be tightened up with further penciling. (Alas, I neglected to take any "work in progress" photos. Whoops!)
And now, back to the fabled Empowered vol.12 restart!
TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Unless I reschedule the post in favor of something else, I've dug up more con sketches from 2019 that I seem to have never gotten around to posting here.
