Mysteriously unposted con sketches from 2019 (pt.1)! (Patreon)
Content
Here are a bunch of con sketches from 2019's Phoenix Fan Fusion that, for unknown reasons, I posted on social media last year but never got around to posting on Patreon, as far as I can tell (with one notable exception).
Alas, these jpegs are fairly low quality as they're harvested from Twitter and not taken directly from my phone's camera roll, due to the sad fact that said phone crapped out last year and I lost months worth of photos when I restored it from the wrong backup; oh, well. (The process of restoring the g-d thing was so traumatic that I balked at wiping it and starting over.)
A few words:
Kei in the Dirty Pair sketch above is mediocre at best, but I really like how the Yuri turned out.
Above is the final version of a strong Ninjette con sketch, with a possibly unnecessary red colored pencil aura slapped on it.
The piece might've been stronger without that red pencil aura (as seen above), though Your Mileage May Vary on this point. I quite like the minimalistic rendering scheme on Ninjette's outfit, as opposed to the rather laborious and time-consuming approach I normally use for her costume.
Yeahp, the Ninjette piece was sketched at the hotel bar; for some reason, I was unusually productive after-hours during this show. (Hushed Half-Elf was spawned at said bar, BTW.)
Patron OCs ahoy! In fact, just finished another (at-home) con sketch featuring one of these ladies.
Note that Phoenix was the convention which I first began using the technique of slapping colored pencil over areas of black Sharpie inks, as seen in the quick Hellcat piece above.
Finally, let's close out this installment of semi-lost 2019 con sketches with one that I did post on Patreon in May 2019:
I'm posting it here again because, well, the illo is one of my favorite Emp con sketches that I've ever done, period. Below is the piece of photoreference I based it on (for some life-drawing content in my con sketchery):
Looks like I still have some Twitter-scavenged jpegs that were never posted here, so you'll see more of these puppies down the road.
TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Time for s'more truly Vintage Con Sketches, folks, as opposed to these merely one-year-old dealies.
